Stuck at the beginning

Everytime I try to start the story I get to the part where the helicopter flies over the characters. The lifeguard suddenly teleports to me, facing to me, and now I can't get into the truck. Looking at gameplay online it seems that the flashback cutscene that was supposed to happen when XII sees the helicopter doesn't happen. Is there anyway to fix this? This happened before I got that fan patch and after. I'm also playing on arcade difficulty though I don't if that affects anything.
