Copper Pickaxe Can't Mine Iron?

I have the copper pickaxe and it seems I can't mine iron with it, so my progression is stuck.

I could be wrong as I haven't played in a few days and those few days have been very busy lol... but are you sure its iron you are trying to mine? There's an ore that is often all over the map, including near spawn, that isn't iron... I can't remember if its titanium or platinum. Iron tends to be further out from the spawn area and can be a bit hard to find. I thought my copper pickaxe wasn't mining iron, until I actually found iron.

Lead ore looks just like iron. The only way that it can be iron is if you go around 200 blocks away from spawn.
