Deep Caves before Pirate Captain?
I'm on the "Defeat Pirate Captain" quest now, I haven't completed it yet. I just want to know if its possible to access the Deep Caves (deep ladder) before I defeat the Pirate Captain? If so, can you please tell me how.

The reason I'm asking this is if you look at the Global Achievements stat, there are more people that have the "Getting Hot" achievement (Reaching the Deep Caves) than the "Washed Up" achievement (defeating Pirate Captain), so that must mean people can access the deep caves without defeating the Pirate Captain right?

The achievements were probably created after some people had progressed beyond them, so reaching the deep caves could trigger without the pirate achievement. Some may have played multiplayer and didn't participate in the pirate battle, but still had access to the ladder.

There is a way to get a ladder before the pirate, but I doubt people do it much. Get Tungsten ore from the Caveling Oasis in the desert caves.

Ooooh if that's possible, then I'll do it. In fact I already have a Tungsten anvil and Tungsten pickaxe from farming Caveling Oasis, though it took me around 7-8 oasis to get that much tungsten ore, lolz. But yeah, I don't mind grinding, if it will result in me having better gear. Thanks!

Defeating the pirate captain is the intended way to do it. Get boots with a speed bonus and wear defensive equipment. Take your settlers to attack the pirate and focus on keeping yourself alive. Make sure you have lots of recall scrolls in your party inventory.

Thanks. Yeah I think I can defeat the Pirate Captain with the gear you have suggested, as I also have 22 settlers, all of them armed with complete Ivy set armour and weapons (took me a really looooong time to get that much Ivy ore). But I also read that raiders get more powerful as you progress the main quest, which is why I was a bit hesitant to progress too fast.

After reading the wiki for a long time, my plan was to get Tungsten pickaxe from farming Caveling Oasis, go to Deep Snow cave and get Glacial ore, craft a Glacial pickaxe, then go to Deep Swamp caves, get Mycelium ore and craft my complete Mycelium armour set as I am playing summoner, and then finally go fight the Pirate King.

Ok I took all my settlers and they killed the Pirate Captain before I could even inflict any damage on him, lolzzz.

If you want a lot of ore, recruit miners and send them on missions.

Also, the Ice Pickaxe found in deep snow cave chests is the best pickaxe in the game.

But Ice Pickaxe has +1 range.

You can by farming caveling oasis :D
But other than that the achievement were introduced later, people also play multiplayer where some people defeat the captain and others just enter the caves :)
