Feeding Cattle

How much do they typically eat? Seems like no matter how much I put in the feeder, it's gone. I have 3 cows, put 50 wheat in the trough, it was gone within a couple mintues. Am I missing something, or do I need to seriously ramp up my wheat production?

Edit - I found the answer. Right after I put it in, villagers were taking the wheat out and moving it to another storage.

Yup. The feed troughs have to be Top Priority or villagers will take the wheat out and put it in the highest storage. How are you handling all the extra wheat seeds? I can't compost them fast enough.
