Large Settlements
Huge settlements are very difficult to manage. the 2 main problems I've run into are the villagers unable to find the food and not do their jobs. this is probably because of the limitations of the 100 tiles they are permitted. so this makes having island sized settlements very hard to run efficiently. it would be better if they didn't have a set parameter. same with the crafting benches i like to have my storage set differently than a circle around the bench.

I tried the octagonal storage building recommended by a guide, but it was not good for me. It was too big and hard to move around inside. I have a smaller square warehouse with crafting areas both inside and outside. Every crafting station can reach every storage box. My settlers can all reach the central warehouse, the central food box, their workplace, and their own house within their 100 tile range.

My quadrant work areas each contain storage boxes used by the settlers living and working in that area. Speedy guard haulers transport everything from the lower priority quadrant storage boxes to the higher priority central warehouse boxes, which are close to crafting areas. The quadrant idea really helps me keep my settlers inside their ranges while being able to maintain a central warehouse and crafting areas accessible by everybody.

Here's my central storage warehouse.

Crafting station storage zone is only for player. Settlers will be able to use mats from outside that circle to craft on it.
