What's the requirement to make a house? What consist as house in this game? What do we need to make a square with a door to become a house?
Chop some wood with your axe or mine some stones underground with your pickaxe as you start playing.
Once you have collected enough wood or stones, use the Workstation to craft some walls, a door, a bed, some floor tiles and a torch. You may not be able to craft a bed yet as you won't have access to wool in the beginning, so you can explore around and steal the beds you come across.
Once you have all that, use the walls to create a square or rectangle, and leave one space for the door. Now put the floor tiles inside that, as well as the torch and the bed. This is your very basic house, where you can sleep / spawn, or where a settler who join your village will occupy.
From here there are various factors to increase happiness further, like the size of your house (minimum size to get maximum happiness is 8x8 interior or 60+ tiles). And you can also add different furniture like table, chair, etc to increase their happiness too.
This is the answer: "For more settlers to join, you need to build beds in houses"
To a house be defined as a house, you just need a bed inside and that's it, probably lighting too. In Terraria, a house is defined as having some sort of table, a chair, and lightning (and the minimum space, of course).
