Accidental NPC Hit
Dear Devs,

PLEASE for the love of god make the spelunker npc not get hit by my weapon attacks. I Keep accidentally hitting her when caving and she does massive damage and i cant kill her with only 1dps being done to her. I shouldn't be able to hit her in a cave

Hahaha, NPCs are so common now in caves I aggro them all the time. I've gotten screwed by one in a boss fight before and so now I kill them before summoning bosses. I agree that it's kind of wack.

been doing multiplayer and a problem I have been having is one friend keeps right clicking to talk to an NPC but accidentaly targets them for summons instead. Maybe if we had a toggle for that?

An option in the menu to turn off our "friendly fire" at NPCs would be great. It's not just the spelunker I accidentally hit, sometimes I hit the villagers wandering around when I'm trying to work before I get the settlement really built.

as said friend, I would definitely appreciate an option that prevents targeting friendly npcs with summons as I have killed more than one by accident due to this

For what it's worth, I agree with this. Nothing quite like wondering why you're dying all of a sudden only to realize it's a hunter on your island trying to kill a zombie by shooting through your face. They're just friggin everywhere too. You kill them and another one just sort of turns up. x_x

there is a lower difficulty setting which you can change at any time in the settings even after world generation where it greatly reduces monster spawns.

Almost died in several boss fights due to the miner and/or explorer NPCs randomly showing up and trying to melee the boss, only to run into my bullets/spells and aggroing on me. Even in late game, where their attacks do very little damage, they can still block your path and bump you into boss attacks/projectiles (or lava!). Maybe make them just run away from bosses and player-caused damage instead of aggroing?

Also, I've never seen it happen directly, and maybe I'm mistaken, but I think the hunter NPC arrows still can hit other settlers. I was playing a no-raider world, but sometimes would find some settlers with visible health bars, like something damaged them. The island is fully lit up, so no zombie spawns, and no raiders means no traps, so I have no idea what else could be causing the damage.

when the NPCs eat or engage with assets (like the campfire) a stat change occurs and the HP bar appears reflecting the changes in stats for them. when in proximity of the campfire HP regens and usually for most players this is also the place where they keep food... the NPCs just ate and some food boosts Max HP and so they look like they took a hit.... but what really happened is their HP just increased and is now climbing due to the Regen Buff from being near the Campfire as well as if the food had other effects.

A long time ago World of Warcraft had this same issue where buffing a player with something that increased the maximum HP value such as when equipping gear and stuff would actually look like you took a HUGE hit. you will see that it takes some time for the player to actually gain back any HP bonus. technically as implemented when you apply an HP Buff such as from food, for the period of time it takes you to recover your HP technically you have no stat increase. this can get you killed but im sure the dev will correct it one day.

@Cora, you're right, I completely forgot about food stat buffs to NPCs, thanks!

As a fellow summoner I agree. Currently I am only messing things up for myself, but I can imagine how annoying it is in multiplayer. I was so happy to get a pawnbroker show up for the first time and then my spiders ate him when I tried talking to him :D

the summon weapon now has it's own icon "Buff" at the top of your screen where all your buffs are displayed. in an event where your minions begin attacking something you'd rather them not be... quickly click that buff to cancel your summons. in the past there was no way to stop them but now this is the method like an "in case of failure" button. if you do this soon enough the npc will survive and recover their HP over a short period.

Minion attacks also do not affect objects in the world so it is a great way to pull the spiders out of their nests or when in a horde of enemies or while fighting a boss your minions (will not) harm neutral mobs or anything placed outside of the programmed layer of interaction. Sheep, Cows, are at risk however and this is one of the balancing mechanics of minion play in that because your minions are doing the damage you can move around avoiding incoming fire and reposition your shots so as to not hit civilians.
