[SOLVED] Issue Launching Game: Detected as Virus by Microsoft Defender

Hi everyone,

I’ve had this game on my wishlist for a while after playing the demo, and I was excited to see it hit the 1.0 release. I decided to buy it and finally experience all the content. However, I’ve run into a problem that I haven’t encountered with any other game on Steam.

When I try to launch the game, I immediately receive this message:

"Failed to start process for this game: 'Operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software.' (0xE1)"

My Microsoft Defender flags the .exe file as a Trojan and removes it. I’ve tried verifying the integrity of the game files to restore it, but the same issue occurs repeatedly.

I’m not comfortable whitelisting or excluding the game in my antivirus. Is there a fix planned for this, or is there a workaround that doesn’t involve excluding the file from scans?

The problem should be due to the steam DRM. We can try to apply another DRM type hoping this could be better, but the best solution is always exclude the executable in the antivirus.

In next hotfix we'll try another DRM so let me know if this will solve the problem.

I can confirm that I no longer see this issue after the hotfix, it is not getting tagged as a virus anymore! Thanks for the fix. I look forward to jump into the game tonight!

BTW, can you title this discussion as [SOLVED]? This could help other guys to recognize eventual other problems with anti-viruses
