I started a new save just for this update and i already have a bunch of gold from steeplechase and xc. like, a few hundred thousand at level 5.
also, if you get one that has even one better stat, you can set it as the new legacy and use it to breed a better one. try using studs with good stats and keep breeding them. you wont get the high stats handed to you, you have to keep trying for them. time and effort towards a goal is what makes a game, a game.
The idea of a legacy horse is nice, but I've done this myself when I started the game. The current rank 10 horse I have is a descendant of the very first horse I got in the game.
They stated in the update that descendants of the "legacy horse" get additional stat bonuses, when compared to your other home-bred horses.
It's also perfectly okay for people not to enjoy some things. If you're happy with the update, I'm glad for you. But respect the opinions of people that are different from yours.
Nowhere did I say that you *have* to like or enjoy the update.
I like having the starter horse now be the legacy horse, one I can pick the colour of. i'm a serial restarter of playthroughs and this blew me away a little. Much love. Seems an update made for a new playthrough and journey rather then a continuing one so I'm definitely biased as a player who does enjoying restarting the game over, and having that suddenly be a fresher experience was a nice surprise.
