I don't really know what I would do differently. I don't want to be evil, that's not fun. I guess I can be as good as I want from the start knowing that Fate's rules are a crock from the start? I have the itch.io version so I don't even have achievements to strive for.
Very fun game, but I'm not sure about the replayability of the game and the sustenance, given the 30 odd endings seem to include a lot of small variances and easy to get, quick to make, and play endings as well as a seemingly non-existent save feature? Was a bit lost when I looked at the main menu and only saw "New Game" and "New Game+" after my run, although I might be blind.
The characters are great, and I'd love to see the game expanded to include more side-content and more divergent possibilities. I'd even be interested in a DLC, sequel, or spin-off game that includes the Archives, other departments, actually playing as the "New Fate"... Seeing what Fate gets up to after you replace him, assuming he doesn't just cease to exist, etc.
I don't know if this will be a cult classic or anything like that, but the game is quite fun and a memorable experience. I'll be buying it on Steam to achievement hunt and do a few other things sooner or later.
Was very surprised to find out the Stupendium did the voice for Frank, as I've been listening to his song "Rest Employed" all day on loop (It's too catchy), and only turned it off for my stream of the game on Twitch.
The voice actor of Fate is also quite talented, I felt very connected to his persona, even if it wasn't fleshed out as deep as I hope it is.
The "conscious" thing was disappointing, to be blunt. The bartender seems a bit two-dimensional as do most of the bar-exchanges although they do have potential to be expanded upon later, and they are a good breather from the paper crunching, which can get quite monotonous and repetitive, especially near the end of the game.
We didn't exactly set out to create a cult classic either, but we apparently did at least *something* right because people seem to enjoy it. Fun fact: The game is actually bigger than it was initially planned and it already has had a (free) DLC (the Bar) so it's extremely interesting for me to see people come into the game with the added content as a coherent whole.
As for the endings, yeah, well, there are only four distinct endings, but some variation to what happens with some characters and how you leave the world in the wake of your corporate ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ :D
That's Douglas Pennant, we really really love his work. I don't think we could have asked for a better Fate... it's amazing.
