Game has no sound
I just bought the game about half an hour ago after watching CallMeKevin on YouTube play it.

When the title screen came up I thought it was weird that there was no music. At first I thought it was my sound settings, but my sound is working fine with other games.

It clearly shows in the options that there are sound controls, none of which work. The game has been completely silent for me since purchase. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game; I fidgeted with my speakers; and I restarted my computer; no dice.

Does anyone know how to fix?

Could you send me your player logs? Also, which hardware and OS are you running on?

You can get your stuff back if you roll back an earlier save. You can find the logs here:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Placeholder Gameworks\Death and Taxes\

To open the folder you can just copy and paste that path into your Run app (Windows Key + R shortcut or type Run into the Windows search bar)

I hope we can get to the bottom of this soon! Sorry for the hassle.

I'm on an Asus Laptop with Windows 10. I bought this laptop specifically for games.

Might be a long shot, but have you checked if the game is present in the Volume Mixer? Like here: https://static.techspot.com/images2/news/bigimage/2018/11/2018-11-05-image.gif

So I finally found the player log you were talking about, it says this:

FMOD failed to initialize. This may be because your sound card is configured to give applications exclusive access, thus preventing Unity from using this device. You can change this in Control Panel > Audio Devices and Sound Themes > Playback Device > Properties > Options ... : "Soundcard does not support the minimum features needed for this soundsystem (16bit stereo output). " (59)

(Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Modules/Audio/Public/AudioManager.cpp Line: 1477)

Forced to initialize FMOD to to the device driver's system output rate 48000, this may impact performance and/or give inconsistent experiences compared to selected sample rate 44100

(Filename: C:\buildslave\unity\build\Modules/Audio/Public/AudioManager.cpp Line: 1416)

I should clarify, I have my laptop's built-in speakers, but I have a seperate set of small speakers plugged into the audio jack and a USB port on my laptop. I tried playing the game both with the speakers plugged in and without the speakers plugged in to see if I got any sound at all. But I still, didn't have sound on either set of speakers.

I read the player's log and tried fidgeting with the sound settings to the best of my ability. I'm really not the most computer tech savvy, I'm just learning as I go. :)

The suggestions in the log are titled differently on my computer, but I eventually found the option to switch my laptop's built-in speakers to a 16-bit output and deselect exclusive access like the log suggested, but the game's sound still doesn't work. And also like the log says, even set to a 16 bit sound setting, the output rate is still 48000. So I'm not really sure what that means... am I just unable to acquire the game's sound on my computer then? I've never any sound issues running steam games before; even games that aren't the most technically complex.

Ooof damnit. Unity (the engine we're using) seems to conflict with your audio driver. Could you try restarting your audio service?

Go to the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). Go to the Services tab. Find 'AudioSrv' in the list, right click and Restart it. Then restart the game.

It might be worth checking if you audio driver has updates too!

Also, in the services tab in task manager, do you have any Nahimic services running? If so, disabling these might help, too :)

If none of that works, this issue is very similar, and you can try it as well (disabling audio devices except for one) https://steamcommunity.com/app/477160/discussions/1/1620599015895266139/

Sorry about the troubles!
