The lamp

Does anyone know how the desk lamp works?
I know it reveals some hidden information on the people we are supposed to either kill or spare.
I guess it is supposed to indicate how their death will impact the world?
Unfortunately the lamps revealed only the same pictures on every single sheet of paper. I tried many different ones, always the same, so I turned it off since it ended up being more in the way then being helpful. Please let me know if I missed something.

You need to hover the mouse over the options, the two boxes.
A lack of death can be as impactful, or even more, than death itself.
The four pictures are categories, judgements are above and below the four.

Well, when I hoover mouse on a choice box, the question (?) signs appear above and below the icons. Should there be some other symbols?

It only shows results for choices you have made. Mark someone dead, mouse over the death mark, you see result. Same deal with life
If you get the same person twice, you can still see the results from last mark. Including in the New Game+.

It shows the choices you already made. So especially useful on the new game+ !

The lamp work even if I put it away at one of the boxes.
