How are you meant to kill the Heavily Armored enemies?

I've been playing on Hard mode and I have no idea how you're supposed to deal with them. I've put 5 rounds of shotgun point blank into them and they dont even flinch, I emptied half the ammo I had into one and he didnt die. I ran up and melee'd him, half the time their armor breaks off but this time it didn't and he punched me out. I've shot the tanks off the backs of the ones that have one, and seen them survive the resulting explosion. They don't seem to have a clearly defined weakness or even a way to properly fight them. You can't slide tackle them either, so yeah, I'm out of ideas. Occasionally I can bring them down in a reasonable amount of time, but in Horde mode I ended up with 2 as the last enemies, one with a shield. Not even grenades were killing them, I'm stumped. Great game but these guys are really flow-breaking.

dump the shotguns rounds but point blank in their head. use slowmo, especially against the shielded so you bypass their cover. grenades/tank explosion can also stun them, which is then a great opportunity to take. that's the best you can do.

that they have a lot of hps is true. personally did not mind though.

invis right into their faces, slo motion and pump 10 rounds of buckshot into their faces at point blank before they react, making sure every pellet hits, and slide away from retaliation. Repeat as necessary

Shoot them in the armpit. Or between the armor.

If you have enough grenades, going full World at War Veteran mode and just grenade spamming them is a decent enough tactic, tho you need to have the resources for this.

There is a post here that gives an exact amount of ammo for each weapon type needed to take down these heavy armored enemies in Trepang2. It says to shoot 3 shotgun shells into their head and that did the trick for me.
