In a "Spec ops: The line" way of thinking: you can always just don't play the game. Then it doesn't happen.

But do it. It's a linear game, and it's a crucial moment for the plot to unfold. I know it sucks, but it is meant to suck

if it is a problem then don't play killing games. Nintendo makes some of the absolute best game content that is more in the line of non violence or more tame violence such as in Zelda.

Separation from real life and fiction, I personally struggle to separate self from character in rp which is why I try to avoid it... Yes firing on unarmed clearly noncombatant soldiers in no condition to fight is extremely cruel especially considering Horizon was there with the direct order to suppress and convert and only kill when necessary...but 106 doesn't exactly have a choice and you as the player, are not 106.
