But VH and Extreme are very Fun and i had a Blast with them
I completed the game originally on very hard because I'm pretty good at fps games and I would say that it's the hardest difficulty where the game doesn't break down from unfair ai + cheese and still remains extremely fun (at least for me).
I'm currently going for the rage completion achievement (with only the final mission to go) and I can confidently say that... no, completing rage mode isn't skill full, it's just time consuming.
All you need for rage mode is time as all you do is throw your self through missions dying repeatedly until you finally hit every head shot whilst abusing slow mo and invis. The best example is the mission with the breakable house in the middle of nowhere as all you can do in that mission to not die is hide -> wait for invis -> take 1 head shot with DMR -> repeat.
Also if you leave the level and quit to desktop instead of going back to the base, it should save your progress.
It requires you to make decisions in combat and use all the mechanics flawlessly.
Above is stupid I agree, it like the "Ultra nightmare" for T2. Ill get there eventually.
Difficulties are a weird one.
Totally down to the player what they like.
Looking forward to trying extreme.
Most of the time, if you have shotgun shells you are going to be fine. The enemies won't hit you much if you run perpendicular to the direction they are looking, and they can't really follow your slide, those are my two cents. You shouldn't go into battle unless you can get a quick kill for the infinite stamina.
In my opinion it highlights a couple of issues the game has. Enemies spawn from above a bit too often, regularly behind you, footsteps make little to no noise, and enemies do not flinch enough from magazines being unloaded on them. Also fire
# 1 cause of death: The Patriarch and his goons. #2 cause of death: My explosives.
1) 85% of the weapon combinations just aren't usable, the only weapons I've found to be viable is shotgun + choke, grenade launcher, dmr and dual pistols + comp + laser + full auto. The best example is just how completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless the SMG is.
2) The AI is just simply ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, if the AI can hit me whilst I'm 50m away with a single shotgun pellet and I go from full health and armour to dead (yes that actually happened to me), that's just not fun or fair.
3) The game goes from you feeling like a super soldier who can wade through hordes of guys with guns, to every single enemy being the super soldier whilst you feel like a toddler hiding from stray bullets in a war zone. I'm not saying that on the hardest difficulty you should feel like you can kill everything with ease, but when it's kinda the whole story of the game that you're supposed to be stronger than everyone else, it doesn't really feel good when a sneeze from a guy who isn't even looking at you could blow you away.
Tldr: the problem with rage mode is it takes the fun and freedom of the regular game and completely strips it down, and when people are most likely only playing rage mode to go for the achievement, it won't feel like getting that achievement was worth their time when it wasn't even fun.
Btw this is just my opinion so if you are having fun with rage mode, fair enough you do you :)
I assume because it is unbalanced and unfun and only masochists would play through it. That's why there's an achievement for it, because it's a bloody nightmare to complete. Maybe not a good game to 100% man.
its clear the open maps were not meant for extreme and rage mode
I've beaten other difficult stuff like Doom Eternal on ultra nightmare and I think the main problem with rage mode is most of the time when I die instead of thinking "hmmm what could I do better next time" I'm instead going "Welp time to throw myself at them again and see what happens."
Also I doubt think the devs went "Lets put in a mode just for masochists lol" but yh I see where ur coming from.
