Ragdoll physics keep it from being a true F.E.A.R. spiritual successor
There were many elements that made FEAR what it was back in the day. One of those details, one that countless games have attempted but failed since, is the satisfying ragdoll physics of enemies. It wasn't too over the top, making the enemies feel weightless and whimsical. However, also not too realistic where bodies just slumped to the floor. FEAR found this perfect balance of video game ragdoll physics. Hell, even the actual sequel failed to reproduce it.

This game misses that by quite a margin. Are there even ragdoll physics? Enemies just explode into chunks or they fall straight down into some "writhing in pain" animation. I've only played up until the first upgrade station but so far the reactions to enemies from the shotgun are disappointing.

The vids that I have see is total FEAR gore, just downloading atm :bandit:

Have you even seen some of the gameplay? Horizon Contractors have active ragdolls. Sliding into a group of them causes the whole group to fly into the air, then fall to the ground.

Idk sounds like a personal preference that most people dont care about the specifics of ragdolling. if its satisfying who cares

I agree with the OP on the ragdoll thing...it's odd. The demo is dumpster fire. The other weird thing is they mapped right mouse to melee and there's no ADS? Idk...I give up. 6 Days in Fal. is out tonight too and also FF16. This is the last thing I would play over those.

You are right. I've played the demo and I couldn't put my finger on as to why the shotgun wasn't as satisfying as FEAR. This was probably the reason. There were only rare instances where enemies turned into jelly in FEAR whereas this game turns every bullet into a missile.

It's weird - you go anywhere near a corpse and it sounds like you picked them up and moved them or did something significant. It's more than the ragdoll thing though.

I clipped through closed doors, the graphics don't look half as good as the videos (13900k / 4090 rig), no ADS, and I have no clue what I'm doing and why. It's a single player game, but all you're basically doing is just running around a maze of rooms that repeat the same exact items in just different locations.

The bullet time feature doesn't feel like you're using bullet time. I'm not even sure it fits into this game. The flashlight illuminated a pitch black area in one spot, then I turned it off and could still see. The guns did feel good to shoot, but how is there no ADS???

Idk, I feel bad for ripping it but it's not good. If it's intended to just have the same content replayed over and over and be more of a sandbox thing, you're better off playing Fear or whatever inspired this.

The poor enemy AI, DOOM 2016 arena style horde shooting, DOOM style music, and lack of leaning, also prevent it from being a true F.E.A.R. successor. F.E.A.R. was about atmosphere and could be played in a more tactical manner due to how the enemy AI behaved, and i'm not getting any of that from Trepang2.

Also i don't know why they didn't give the game a proper name, Trepang2 is suicidal marketing.

*gasp* You mean to tell me that a game, which's trailer showed only cool finishers and nothing else, has nothing else of value? I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you!

Then why all trailers were showing that it looks exactly like a copy of FEAR? That's literally its selling point. The ONLY selling point.

The ragdolls really don't have the "feel" for me in this one.
FEAR is still unbeatable in that regard imo.

They only showed the combat resembling F.E.A.R. when you go yolo in that game, the trailers did not show the same level design or enemy AI that F.E.A.R. had.

The finished product is mashup of DOOM 2016 and F.E.A.R. while not being as good as either.

theres ads once you beat the game its just not the intended way to play
