I'd happily pay for a mission pack or two.
You're going to need to offer a different strategy than "use this gun" because RNG isn't always friendly to everyone. I've got all the T1 guns except for 2, and that laser seems to be one of them. I've done several T1 raids now, usually going to Wave 9 or 10 before I decide to call it.
I got past the mission, I still think it would be beneficial to have a wave or two come from the port or starboard sides to allow for more avoidance space. In a mech game where the boundries are limited and we can't control altitude nor reduce incoming damage (Other than stacking armor) you really need to be able to either dodge incoming fire or take cover. That's pretty difficult to do when you can only move left or right by half a mech.
First, Kudo's for making this, it's great knowing it was made by you alone !
Pros:
- This kind of gameplay is quite rare, there are very few games that can be compared with, but because it's rare and original, i enjoy it despite some part i dont really like.
- kinda realistic storytelling, i enjoyed it so far.
Co.ns:
- i feel like farming money is a requirement to get forward, doing missions one after another is really really tough, and at some point it's not possible to keep going because of the difficulty spikes. Even if i enjoyed the game, because i didn't wanted to waste time in farming money and doing repeatables missions, i cheated to give me some thought cheat engine.
ideas and proposals :
- introduce difficulty modes, higher difficulty gives more money per kill, but ennemies have more hp, it's a bit artificial difficulty, but it shouldn't be too hard to implement.
- add a close range weapon, like a sword, halberd or lance bound to a dedicated key, the idea is not to spam it or using it to combo, but having a high cooldown powerfull attack to break your way out whenever you are completely surrounded.
- allies should fire at incoming ennemy missiles if there are no other target available, to cover you or protect themselves.
- rng loot makes energy management really difficult, especially if your mech and weapons are very demanding, the active module that is supposed to help to regen energy is not very worth it.
- add an ennemy that scrambles your radar and coms with command, or just dont appear on it, with the right storytelling it can put a real pressure on the player.
- i think adding one or two more indoors mission (with ambushes) might be fun , especially with the previous idea, it would force you to constantly check your corners, or have moving patterns to avoid being stuck at all cost in narrow places.
- railguns should pick a target by themselves, or have longer reload but hit with way more damage, in last mission i feel like i always had to pick a target
- add a beam like energy weapon, because it's cool looking.
- add more ally mech to fight with during battles, having only 3 mech in the whole game so far it a bit sad, especially considering the mobility and how useful mechs are in this context of war, there should be more.
- add more allied infantry as well in siege like battles, it doesn't feel like the whole world took a gun and ran toward the front to help.
About raids, campain and lots of useless money after some time of hunting for better gear: I think its will be just wonderfull to make an option "strike team" where we can use our bucks stockpiles to buy, update and customise our kill team. Annd i mmean not only the mechs but tannks, rocket lauunchers and helicopters too (Isnt it will be a shame to not use somewhere beyond first mission? Ohh... And yes, i like to see infantry in battle too. IIt makes more sense and scale). Well why? For campain to see more... errrr... "meaning" mechas from our squad and for 'counter invasion" missions looking like campain-raid-roguedungeon clash (hellow Muv-Luv UN attempts to capture/destroy one of hives!). May be it will be a point to spend our money and for "craft" like "take this useless 101 dal... ahem!... rifles and put it into furnace, burn a lot of green paper and have a chance to take a updated gear!" or "We need quadrillion of bucks to make experimental gun!". Why not? Its will be a fun and pleasure to get rid of our billions to make a chance to get something unusual like a laser rifle with great damage and energy demand, or micronuclear rockets, or drone bay station skill! Its for your choice and i understannd how much pain in the ass all of this options have! But honestly... I had allready restart game only to not look at the billions on my paycheck :)
Okay... End of offtop. Keep going, give us some times something like railartyllery strikes on missions, make them a bit longer and complicated and it will be just wonderfull.
The bunker was a good change of pace from the other missions and the atmosphere was done well.
Fire Typhoon was absolute chaos and shows how ridiculous the Reds are at adapting.
Weapon Test throws in something completely overpowered for fun which is good once in a while.
Bosporus + Kiev part 2 gives your allies a more prominent role, and you get to mark targets for rail gun artillery.
Kinda mirrowing nukes at Turkey's NATO airbase and Pentagon biolab program at the same time.
My theory is that player's unit and other forces supposed to be containment unit (or finish the rest of the Russian resistence after they were damaged by their own civilians turned into machines of death) coming at the guise of heroes for survivors, but Russian nuclear strikes by their own territory in attempt to contain the worst outbreaks resulted in the first phase of the the virus mutation and then it's all went downhill from this.
