Green energy potion, how to use?

At the beginning of the game I received some green potion-like item which is accessed via pushing R (right analogue stick).

How do you use it? As pushing it only acesses the menu with 4 squares, one of which is occupied by this potion. But how do you actually use it? Is it healing? The game doesn't tell and I pushed all buttons to no effect. Later I even got 2 of them and still didn't understand their use.

Hi Draggy! Pressing on the right analogue stick brings up the quick menu and slows down the action. When you have it on screen, without releasing the stick, just move it to the slot you want to use to select it and then release it. The selected item will be used upon release. Bombs and rage drinks are also some items that are used in the quick menu.

As far as I remember the green potion is already in one of the 4 slots (top left one) when I press the right analogue stick and nothing happens when I hold it and press all different buttons on joystick (I use PS4 joystick).
What exactly I do after pressing and holding the right analogue stick? Move the potion with d-pad/left stick? But isn't it already in one of the slots? I'll be able to check it a few hours later, I'm now not at home.
Maybe you can't use it at the beginning of the game? What is the green drink used for?

Here in this video the author immediately used the green energy potion somehow, right after accessing the menu with right analogue stick. He didn't move it anywhere at all. What button did he push after pressing right analogue stick to use it? I pressed all different buttons while holding the right stick and nothing happened even though I needed healing at that moment too.

Yea I finally figured it out. Wasn't easy to guess as the game doesn't explain this at all and using potions like that is pretty unusual to me, you usually push some button to use it and using the RIGHT stick to navigate the menu while holding it at the same time is also quite unusual.

Hi Draggy, glad it worked for you in the end! Quick menu is explained the first time you get a potion or first time buying one to Xaloc. We implemented it that way so that you can very quickly use items while in the middle of a battle, without having to pause the game to select it via a menu and resume the action immediately :) Hope you keep enjoying SuperEpic!

Yea, as seen from my profile I love cute animal-centered games so I wasn't thinking long when I noticed this game in PSN (though bought it in steam because of cheaper regional prices).
Probably the latter is true (explained when buying a potion).
The only problem left for me is that I don't have modern phone for QR codes (the one I use is only with sms and calls, no android or camera on it) and had to make a screenshot, then cut the QR-code part and identify it using the website I found via google, fortunately it worked (https://zxing.org/w/decode.jspx).

Glad to read you managed to solve the QRs that way. We precisely programmed those minigames so that they could be used in PC, tablets etc. besides phones, so that someone without a phone could enjoy them too. It's great to see you could use them too, many thanks for sharing!

This is nearly impossible with the steam controller. Took me like 100 tries before it finally worked. (Yes I know no one cares about the steam controller anymore but I still use it for all of my steam games). Also, how do you do it on the keyboard? I can get the popup item menu to come up with E but then the directional arrows and all other buttons i tried won't navigate through the popup item menu and actually highlight the item you want.

This is late but in case other players still need the info: to use the energy drink, hold E and toggle with the arrow keys (release to use). Found this thread and a keyboard guide while searching for the same answer today.

Even with that help I can´t get it working, Im doing exactly as instructed but I think the menu bugs out or something, maybe is my controller but I cannot move in the menu even if I use the keyboard and press , when I try to use the arrow pad it just doesnt do anything
