Hi, no it is not possible to improve stats of your original characters and Custom Characters.
Only with skills and buff from skills, you can raise their stats.

That is why, you raise your card level for characters to unlock some skills and redo NH route to have a better Custom Character and unlock lvl.5 skills for Original Characters.

After, you have some events online to unlock special card for a specific character to unlock a new skill for him in New Hero.
