Great game if you like Rimworld, city builders, etc. I'm still in the early game, but I find it to be much slower paced than Rimworld. It's a very relaxing game to play. Your worst enemy will typically be yourself due to poor planning or just a general lack of game knowledge. Sometimes I like to let the game run on normal speed and watch the hustle and bustle of my city that actually looks and feels like real activity in a busy city from a bird's eye view.

It has a great tutorial that teaches you most of the basics. There is also a demo which is the full game, but backpedaled by a couple of updates. The developer is also active in the forums and takes constructive suggestions seriously.

I got it for what was said to possibly be the only sale ever, but I would gladly buy this at full price. Can't wait to see how much more detail and depth gets added to the game.

Songs of Syx is without a doubt the best city builder i've ever played. Other games have done singular bits and bobs better, but the overall functionality in Songs of Syx beat out any other's i've played, and i've been playing city builders since Impressions Games Caesar series.

First off there are eight races that can be citizens of your city, some you can pick to start with, others you need to "earn" by building your city to entice them to join. Each of these races have their food preferences, they like buildings to be certain materials, they like different road types, different decorations, they even like or hate other races too and that can cause problems for multi ethnic cities.

The scale of the game and cities population is wild for how it handles citizens, in most citybuilders the people aren't really you know people, in Songs of Syx they are. Doesn't matter if your city is ten people, or a hundred, or ten thousand. You'll start as a hamlet and you can get thousands upon thousands of citizens.

Then you have empire management because you aren't just a city builder. You'll eventually get large enough where you aren't simply a city, you're a city state, and then you begin taking over your neighbors where you can develop their lands(other regions don't have the same city building as yours its more abstract). Bringing in slaves, foreign goods and allowing your own city to specialize, for example mines can be labor(slave) intensive but if you capture a region rich in ore and coal you can have them ship you daily wagons full of that good, and then you can shift your former mine workers(or slaves) to other industries, or even allow you to send out soldiers as a permanent standing army.

There's so much you can do in this game that a steam review is insufficient to say everything. So i'll leave it by saying that i've never played a city builder like this, i've played similar, Dwarf Fortress kind of has similar elements, but Songs of Syx is wholly unique. Its a fantastic game and if you like city builders and you like less conventional games give it a try.

PS: The game runs amazing well even with thousands and thousands of people running around on max speed, so no concerns for people there the potato graphics help with that, and still look good for what they are portraying.

Great Tutorial 10/10...

Beware, this game has been my crippling addiction for the past two weeks. Hours will pass by like seconds and before you know it the day has been spent.

There is lots of depth requiring thoughtful planning but not so much that you become a slave to efficiency and there is still room for creativity and aesthetic design. The game consistently introduces new challenges as you progress and there is always a new height to reach or a new obstacle to overcome. The map generation and races enable unique considerations with each new start allowing for unending replayability.
Generally speaking games that allow you to practice slavery and enable your most despotic tendencies are top tier, this game is no exception and allows you to profiteer from war. You start off as tribal monkes but at some point even the mightiest empires will be humbled, their people toiling away, giving you their raw resources to fuel your ever insatiable industry. Ultimately it allows for great roleplay and you can develop a culture for your city.

Personally I would like to see diplomacy and war developed a bit more, particularly with AI. I believe this is being improved anyway and I don't think its the main focus, just something that allows you to use the full might of your city. Game is still early access and will only get better with time.
