Mushroom Farm Yield (v62)
I've been tinkering with Dondorian-only runs using mountain regions with large chunks of the capital map consisting of caves/mountain blocks.

Dondorians have food preferences for bread, fish, and mushrooms. Fisheries have large employment demands and the current poor yield for mushroom farms also make it a huge drain on employment. I have two farms over 600 tiles with 25 workers apiece and the yearly haul does not break 300 with just a single investment into [Edible Crop Optimization] tech.

Considering that mushroom farms have to be constructed inside the mountain and by default come with 100% fertility, I believe their yield should be adjusted to better reflect Dondorian skill for mushroom farming, the 100% fertility, and real life logic as to how dense mushrooms can grow in farm settings. I believe they should still demand sizable plots and employment requirements but having 50-60 mushroom farmers, 30 fisherman, and two pastures of 20 animals apiece being unable to support a colony of 190 Dondorians seems overly restrictive.

Having technology being the solution to poor yield shouldn't be the default with the changes to tech costs and how the new Knowledge system functions in v62. That'd mean having over 80% of your 200 pop colony devoted to agriculture and knowledge infrastructure before you can even begin to get into using Bakeries and Bread.

Why do they have to be in the mountain? I toyed with mushroom farms a few times and just gave up, they produce very little. However it will let you build them anywhere. The maps I always pick always seem to have a -60% modified on mushroom farms so it's just kind of a non-starter (which... is not really clear to me like freaking mushrooms grow just about anywhere lol but I digress.)

They don't /need/ to be located in a mountain but they need to be placed inside a building with a roof, presumably because the game logic is that they need to be "in the dark."

I just find that in a mountain is the easiest because you're not fighting for space with agriculture that can produce a higher yield. From what I've experimented with, you're always going to get 100% fertility with a mushroom farm in a mountain.

It says 100% fertility, yes. However I still think there is a -60% penalty stacked against that, if you (like me) are always on a map with a 60% penalty to mushrooms. (Look at your yield, mine is insanely low.)

Ah, I understand what you meant.

For my Dondorian-only experiments, I've been using Cold climates because of the 10% bonus for mushroom farms.
Agree. Basic demand for knowledge, army (if raid rates over 25%) and food just halts city infrastructure and development to zero.

There is definitely a balance issue once you cross certain thresholds of population and knowledge. Once I hit around 1500 pop the game just starts to lose me for this reason.
