A shorter game like this?
Hi! Does any-one know a simulation game that is strategic and has lots of replay-value like SOS but that you can play from beginning to end in a couple hours or so?

Also not really close but it manages to rings *lots* of excellent, interesting changes on the bells it's got, it's packed about as full as it can get:

It is turn-based but I think it might be just the ticket here.

A deep simulation game that just takes a few hours to "complete" is pretty much a contradiction. You play these kinds of games for so many hours, because the mechanics are that complex and deep. If you want a quick match, you have to get rid of complexity and depth.

Yet you're some-how the only reply that couldn't give a suggestion by name... how bizarre.

If you wanted to make SoS shorter, what would you change? Assuming you didn't want to do things the game already lets you do like speed up time and play on a smaller world map.

No, it's logical, because I just explained that the game you are asking for doesn't exist.

he isn't here to help he is only here to troll. Just as i am here to feed the Troll some delicious Troll food and watch and document their odd destructive behavior.

Here trollie trollie trollie.
Against the Storm is a solid pick, if you want City building with the ability to finish a single city in 1 game session or two. The big problem is that what you're asking for is a little like a golden goose, so there most likely won't be that much games.

Oh, this one might also catch your interest, at least for some hours:
