Slavery
Am I the only one who doesn't use slaves? Sitting around 9k population in my capital and slavery just doesn't seem necessary. Why do you all use slaves?

I mainly use them to free up workforce for my race that they're not good at, but the race I enslaved is. I play as Amevias so obviously, I gotta replace the Amevias working at the laboratory, with human slaves.

Also, slaves typically are easier to please than plebians. They have less needs to fill, since their only need is "Submissiveness" and not Happiness and Loyalty.

Slavery is not required, is just a fun choice to make with your city build. I've found them relatively easy to acquire and forget them once you have all your law facilities up. That said you can really lean into slavery if you like by nudging your law bars around, slaves are extra manpower that don't count toward your happiness needs. They are also good for selling, if you need resources.

One thing i noticed is that, when you have high submission, you can overwork your slaves constantly.

It's almost impossible to overwork citizens.

today's topic: slavery.

Yeah i dont use slaves either, im too much of a good guy to do that. i want happy people living fulfilled lives in my city. We stand tall on a moral framework of equality and meritocracy and simply kill all the war prisoners.

Fun fact: When your slaves and criminals die if there is an option to go to a mass grave or a graveyard slave bodies will always be dumped in the mass grave.

Not sure if this is an oversight, but slavery also helps with some achievements. The education one, for example, requires a population of X. This requirement counts slaves, but the slaves' education do not count against the required amount of education... So you can effectively have slaves run your economy while the vast majority of your population gets educated in the universities to unlock the achievement more quickly.

I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get the education achievements so this might actually be a viable reason. Thank you. Its just really difficult to get education very high while growing. Even having a lot of nurseries and schools is challenging because not keeping the schools supplied with paper efficiently heavily impacts their utility. And Universities take so long educate...

I don't use them either but I've mostly been playing Humans. Playing without slaves is more difficult for other races.

seems in 68 they only go to the mass grave. my graveyard would not accept them
I made a few runs with tilapi as ruler race and humans, dendorian and the pig ones (don't remember the name right now) as slaves. As the tilapi really like having slaves from other races (iirc 2.5 fulfillment in stead of 0.5), this seems to be a very suitable road to go. They also like dread which also works very fine with slave submission.
