This is in the same vein as making some materials unable to be farmed/cultivated in certain regions, pushing you to trade and making it hard to be fully self-sufficient.
Try looking for another ore vein if you have it in your map. If there are no others, check out the sale prices for commodities you can produce easily locally (clothes, furniture, eggs or caged lifestock - some people swear by buying gems and selling jewellery) and just use the proceeds from those trades to buy ore as needed.
But okay I will skip the mine and just import the ore...
