When you hold right click on the mouse, it shows where resources and foragable goods are. You mark them for foraging and when the season is right and they are ready, your villagers will go grab them.
Food is king. You want to go hard into food and keep on it. When you are creating a farm, you want to put it in a spot with good fertility. Preferable at least 80% or higher. When the farm is created, click on it. There is a slider to assign workers to it. When assigned they auto farm and handle everything themselves, but remember you harvest your fields once a year. You start with a certain amount of crops in the beginning, i don't remember what or how much. But make sure you have enough to plant into your farm. If they don't have enough to start the farm, they will probably sit there and wait for the rest before they start farming, which in the beginning will never happen.
I would get a pig farm up as fast as possible. And then start working towards hunters. 10 hunters will bring in a ton of meat without diminishing returns.
I recommend checking out icons v66 playlist on you tube, really good info.
