Harvest Makes No Sense
So I have a wheat field that makes 256 according to it's tooltip, and in the early game when I Had like 10 dudes, it did. It's fed my whole town for awhile, but I have a bunch of other fruit and veg farms and some pastures. But now that I'm around 100 pop, suddenly while the tooltip still says 256, the last harvest I got 120 out of it, that's it. Tooltip lied, yield is down for no reason that I am aware of. And now because of it my city is starving...what the hell?

I had a similar issue, although I didn't pay attention to tooltip at the time, but from my limited experience (1500 pop +4 regions) it can be caused by bad(terrible(that I had)) logistics meaning not enough workers to haul the yield to warehouse. Basically I had giant fields producing a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of food enough to feed 3 more cities like mine, but most of the food was left to rot in the fields. So if you didn't pay attention to logistics before, try looking into that.

I checked this, there was nothing left in the field, it did not rot, I watched as they moved it all to the warehouse though it did take longer than it has in the past. I can't add more workers cuz food and I can't add more deliverymen because workers so.

was there a bad weather message? droughts can decrease the yield. Were your workers always on the field? if not that can also decrease the yield.

I assume they were? They were always assigned and had no reason not to be there. And no bad weather messages? Does rain count?

Most likely a drought. droughts reduce the output that harvest by about 50%

Except they are not "robots" they have needs and depending on your city layout that could mean farmers are travelling far to get their needs met which means less time to tend which means less harvest. so basically your city sucks. try again.

Being a ♥♥♥♥ is not helpful.

So you can suck the fertility out of the soil somehow or have it happen. I had a grain field do similar where I was pulling like a massive amount of grain every year and then it cut in half.

Crops are all also time-sensitive with their work.

The game seems to build up a "cared for" value for the crop over the course of the year based on the daily "work value" rates shown in the UI. It does say estimate though, and some things like getting pulled off a big harvest right at the end of harvest time might mean you effectively lose whatever your guys don't cut down quick enough.

So if your farmers get pulled off into a workstation or conscription, strikes, changing jobs, etc... the crop can take a year or even more to 'bounce back'.

maybe if you removed water near the farm this could have tanked quality of soil. I also think too much rain as an event does exist, but not sure about this one.

Well I didn't get a popup telling me about a drought like I do about very hot or cold weather, so I'm assuming no?

Wow master of city layouts, why don't you regale me with your genius city layout tips then?

This was a new farm, that was newly irrigated with canals, so I can't see it being depletion of soil. But I've made a habit of making new farms just before their normal harvest time, so they get as much work as their peers.

idk about too much rain, but I definitely didn't remove water at all.

workers gain experience over the life span, When new workers join in, they will not be as efficient as a seasoned veteran. the sprites are more simulated to be individuals.
