From what I understand about the lore the religion in this game is not composed from fairy tales but a part of actual history in the game. There are no atheists, because gods, giants and dondorians are physical things that the inhabitans of the world can confirm and percieve.
Isnt it a fact that the world is round? Yet millions think its flat? Unless they saw with their own eyes... Which in this world most did not see with their own eyes.
Ill point out that a great many gods and fairy tales are actually the same gods but in a different language. Most myth is a tale of demi gods ect but those gods were just like people which means easily corrupted by their lusts.
Im not so sure that they were fairy tales. However by the time we get them they likely have been corrupted for a number of purposes. Then you take the more modern western God. Someone who is historically accurate and witnessed by first hand accounts, almost all of whom died horrific deaths simply because they wouldnt change their testimony. Rarely will some one die for a lie. Its much harder then you'd think to make your own fairy tale that people believe, that also stands the test of time. I wouldnt be so hasty to discount all these stories.
I agree with your disposition, but I think you are missing the point.
If gigant, elfs and dwarfs that are literally spawned in mountains would exist today, here on earth, there would be no atheists.
Nonsense, Just because something might exist doesn't mean you have to worship it. For example taylor swift exists but we don't all have to worship her. So in this game just cause some thing happened and there is a big dude with a big D*ck doesn't mean everyone and their dog has to choose a side and start worshipping something. Its nonsense pick another counter argument.
Well see it this way, "everyone" was christian back then in europe, but there were varying levels of faith.
But not everyone demanded a church in their town. Some people were just fine being peasants or whatever
No but the people who wanted it lived with the people that don't really care. And if you said you didn't belive in any gods you'd get weird looks. It would seem like arrogance to the people with gods as there is no Scientific revolution which atheists based their world view on. Tech is a thing, but the idea of everything can be discovered with science isn't present pre-enlightenment times, and if it was never in large enough numbers to impact society
Life was hard, very hard, so any solace was tempting. Even if you didn't faithfully follow the religion, it was comforting to have someone to blame.
If you can educate people by "indoctrination" , why not educate people into believeling you are the only god worth praising? And create order of inquisitors to declare heresy upon infidels.
No, I never said that. Atheism is the denial of divine "existence", not selection of worship.
If you think divinity is real - you cannot possibly be an atheist, no matter if you worship the gods or not.
What I don't understand is why everyone of a single race still worships multiple gods. There's a majority, sure, but it's never the overwhelming majority (Even among your starting plebs) and it makes it annoying to have to build four shrines right next to each other just to satisfy all of them. I like the idea of minor religious outlier groups, as well as them quarreling with each other, but I don't think there's been a major civilization (Even the modern day US) where there hasn't been some majority religion/school of thought. It would be like if they put the Kaaba next to Notre Dame and decided to stick the world bank next to all of it.
