I'm still new to the game, do you use the dwarf analogue as craftsmen?

Yes, as well as bakers, metal workers and miners.

Also just a tip: Put houses near workplaces so the workers use them, they only pick housing if it is nearby to their work area. It also helps that Dondorians like noise and most of the places they like working in are often noisy.

Amevias monorace, no slaves. I like them, they're not too shabby in most areas and make for pretty good soldiers.

I like tilapi/humans with pig slave farmers and garthimi slave miners. i usually just sell or execute captured amevias. and dwarfs are for crafting (slaves when playing tilapis, citizens when playing humans).
never did a garthimi playthrough yet, but want to try one next.

My kingdom only allows humans to be free. All other races are abominations to be enslaved.

My favorites are Amevia, Tilapi and Cretorians. I also love the dwarves but I have yet to figure out how to play them successfully.

dwarves are very hard to play as a monorace, their administration and food production abilities suck so neither farming your own stuff or extracting tribute from controlled regions will be very efficient, so slaves are very tempting. but if you want to avoid that then your best bet is to embark on a site with lots of sithilon or gem nodes, then base your economy on exporting those. you need 5+ trading partners to keep this viable, so you have to kind of rush to awkwardly conquer any free lands you can reach with mercenaries so that you actually border 5 different nations, but it's quite a powerful strategy that will keep you from worrying about your basic needs ever again

I usually set my ruler race priorites for fulfillment, the slave races for skill.
the dendorians are well at crafting/mining, even if I don't have any mines right now in my 3.5k city. My coal/iron needs I've solved via conquering other provinces and setting up a production there.

Dendorians solo are kinda tough, since you don't get a reproduction building and they are bad at producing food. What I've also done some versions ago was humans + dendorians (~70/30) without slavery. that was also working fine.

Is there any point in reproducing instead of just inviting more migrants?

Garthimi, they're just so damn cute!

Cretorians run the show, Dendorians enslaved, everything else is sent to die in the arena. They will learn of our peaceful ways, by force!

immigrants give a slight happiness penalty, it also gets more difficult to attract immigrants as your city grows to a certain point
