you can pay in goods instead of cash, you can trade via demand/offer in the meantime to collect cash.
you can send gifts of goods, wood for example which is usually plentiful depending on your map and you can easily cut down more, the agreement price is based on your relationship to them, i have always found mine to be about +400% at game start but of course this depends on your relationship to them, that's affected hugely by your race and theirs, if your garthimi for example and you want a relationship with your dondorian neighbours then good luck, your dirty disgusting filthy stinking insects to them and they hate you.
i usually play as humans, humans are generally neutral to all other races.
400%? Ive been playing as humans and i have never see anything over 105% let alone 400%!
I tested shipping all my goods (and I mean everything) over as a gift and it did nothing. Sure I didnt have a lot but it didnt change opinion at all.
agreeing to gift requests increases your relationship
accepting gifts decreases your relationship (which is a bit weird)
as i say all you can do is send a load of stuff as a gift, rinse and repeat whenever you can spare stuff until they want your babies, the box tells you down the bottom how much your relationship should increase by from the gift.
If it isn't increasing then id suggest joining the discord and reporting it as a bug.
you have been able to demand/offer goods in the diplomacy screen for several updates now, V66 adds slaves to that system too
