Interacting with far away factions

Is there any way to accomplish this? Conquering lands, building additional settlements, etc? I started with 3 that I could interact with, and now I'm down to 2 for some reason. Both of which are already trade partners. How can I interact with the other factions on the map?

Also, I just researched "Small Town" finally, now how do I build one...? I don't see anything on the world map regarding this.

There is is no interacting with anyone you don't share a border with in a meaningful way.

I'm sorry but you are going to need to invade and subjugate everyone.

The "small town" would be something you build in a subjugated town as its "town center" style building.

It all feels very crude and chopped apart and feels like a step down from even the previous version.

I still love the car though

So, if I invade and subjugate my two neighbors then I essentially have no one to trade with, ever?

Mouse over their cities and see if they have further contentions. Because I think it would actually be that simplistic.
