This dude ain't kidding. I finally tried a small army of 600 max bows max training tilapis (no other race is worth ranged training) and I could take on up to 8k troops at once, and that's only limited by their ammo! They hit like a nuclear gatling gun. Dev will definitely nerf this at some point when even argonosh squads fly apart like leaves.
I think the original plan from Jake for archers was that they are devastating to begin with against unarmoured bandits but later against armoured targets they would be a lot more limited on there damage output.
This would make sense, after all if your a group of bandits attacking a walled settlement then your a lunatic and should expect to get slaughtered in a hail of arrows.
of course its very hard to build an AI that understands your settlement is walled and attacking with some measly peasants is a bad idea.
I personally like the range on archers a lot, games where archers can only fire 2 foot in front of them annoy me so i guess it simply comes down to damage output or a more sophisticated armour equation later on when fine tuning combat, maybe at that point crossbows make an appearance and fill the armour penetration gap at the cost of range.
still, its very entertaining to watch legions slowly marching on your walls suddenly start exploding into red mist.
