So I found out Haulers
Never have used them, since usually placed a ton of warehouses, using transports for remote mines at best. But then a remote library happened and there was no need to place warehouse there, since it was an army district (I dunno why it happened to be there).
3x3 hauler instantly made it peak in efficiency - it gave me 10k extra knowledge that I didn't know it had in it!

Also 3x3 hauler hauling grain made bread production skyrocket - I was bottlenecking hard on grain and didn't think that it's because grain was never delivered, since work-load was within it's usual 80%-ish.

I changed my mind about haulers. Maybe someone is sleeping on them as well.

thanks for the tips. I built a hauler once.......But to use him correctly, i need to place him by the resource mine, farm, etc........right?

Haulers are nice when you want your buildings to work at 100% efficiency.
At a certain size of your population they are even mandatory I would suggest.

You have to place the Hauler where you want the resources to be hauled to.
So e.g. put a Grain and Wood Hauler next to your bakeries when the warehouse isn't right next to it.

SoS highly benefits from short walk paths. So try to build self sufficient "cells" with a certain kind of industry, housing and basic services like eateries and lavatories. This way scaling your settlement should be easy ^^

Thanks for clearing that up, so def one by your warehouse and he will pick the best resource to bring?

Hard to guess what you mean. I've googled "def" and couldn't find a translation for it.
Haulers will pick from the nearest warehouse or source (not 100% sure though).

Def = defo = definitely, to my knowledge.

You place them where you want resources. So if your carpenter uses wood and the warehouse is more than ~20 tiles away - place hauler with wood near said carpenter. For instance I place leather hauler in between my tailors and said tailors do not run all the way to warehouse for it - they take it from the hauler and it's a hauler job to get leather.

So tldr:
- Do not place haulers near places where the resource is abundant. Like don't place haulers that haul coal near coal mine. Or don't place haulers that haul wood near a woodcutter.
- Do place haulers near places where resources are needed. Like do place haulers near that haul wood near carpenter.. Or do place haulers that haul leather near tailors.

Also IF you have unlocked Transports in the research tree, then you may want to place some near your resource producing clusters. Like placing one near your woodcutting area, that'd collect the wood there and take it to target warehouse:

Like here I placed transport in between my massive woodcutting area. Transports work a bit differently than haulers/warehouses and need to have a designated warehouse to drop collected resources.

Haulers only haul a single resource of your choice - you'll be able to choose which one after you placed a hauler and clicked on it. Thus they cannot replace warehouses fully.

They will not - for that you need to click "fetch" button on your warehouses. This way you warehouse workers will take fish anywhere that's within their range.

Haulers only congregate resources on their spot, so that anybody who needs them could get them from there.
Jimib4158 Sep 13, 2023 @ 12:02am
okies, yeah moved my fish hauler downtown, where Crets run to get his fish. Deleted the other......useless

My big question is more on warehouse though, my only warehouse so far has 250 meat, if pop starts to starve, will they move up to eat raw meat?

Citizen will look for prefered food first; when they can't find any they will grab what they can.
250 raw meat seems quiet high; You should export the over production, if you aren't doing it already ;D

I would, but im paranoid-phobic of running out :D food stays with me

Another thing on how to use haulers - just order huge chunks of map gathered (fell trees, collect stones) and create two huge hauler spots for both somewhere near your city. This way you will actually gather these resources across the map, without eying them just laying there forever and then slowly being stored when they are needed. Bonus points if you placed that huge stone hauler near your masons and that huge wood hauler near your carpenters.

*Me, currently playing warm climate with fertility of 17% and only gems on my global map settling spot and with garthimis as a starting race* Food is good. Treasure food :D

I guess cold would be even worse, but warm hurts pastures more. Having to rely only on balticrawlers and only breeding them in mountains, cause base fertility is nothing, having almost no damn wood on the map, tiny amounts of water avaliable for farming... Luckily there's still an "exploit" of manually making a body of water and fishing from it. Otherwise it'd be real bad time. Still my insect brains decided to riot and stop balticrawler pastures for some time - half of the population starved to death.

Yeah my grain shortage drought almost broke my back, i wana option to turn randoms off :/

I have like 4 or 5 bakeries supplying most of my food, this is the highest fertility roll ive ever had
