Best way to look at it is, the animal noticed them and ran off for a while.
The bit i feel is a bug in hunting is when wounded they will continue to butcher the animal they caught and bleed out at the table ha.
Yeah, bleeding is punishing--I have Physicians but they can NOT stop bleeding. You need to have a Hospital to stop bleeding, so they just butcher while they bleed! ;-p
It DOES seem like a hunter can wipe an area out of possible animals to hunt. So I will stop hunting there for awhile and let the animals re-pop before they are all gone.
Good news is if you hunt a spot dry new ones will spawn in every year, the bit i dont know is if they multiply faster if you leave some alive there, or if its just X spawn in every year upto a cap.
