Running out of food in 63
With all the changes in 63. My whole town went hungry and starting to die off. Eatery with many from stone to clay and other buildings need chairs. I did one year in game and now everyone is hungry. I try to make fruit farm but hunters unable to gather them or vegetables too. Unless I need another building. The fishing area wood and chairs now, just slow to make chairs. Not much on the map for gather and food resources seem low for temperate map central setting.

I did another game, got up to 300+ pop now out of food over 100 people hungry and people leaving my town, with raid getting ready to hit my town. I produce 1.6k food but used 1.9k. Harvesting once per year in late summer. I try to add second veggie and fruit farm in fall but now have to wait until summer, still in winter. Single bakery that produce very slow bread (have 2.4 k grain), fish farm still waiting on chairs to finish building. Have bull, pig, and lizard farm to seem low food. Seem to jump in pop during the winter time. Also waiting on clay pit to be finished built. I have over 25 people making chairs but seem slow. Before 63, never had an issue with food.

Use irrigation, it's free. Also go for grain + bakery first, complimented with hunter, boost with knowledge if possible. Harvest wild stuff.

Depending on race, it might be worth importing food and exporting something you're good at.

That is the thing, since the update of version 63. Nothing but problems. I played bit longer on that save. I had people leave my town, riots with lots of murder, got raided with no way to defend myself (lost 2.9 k gold plus supplies). My pop dropped to 148 from being over 300. A lot of workers stop working (had -120 jobs). Total mess. Adding furniture to many buildings which cripple the economy of the game. For fishing, wood, or ore, before the wood/stone was good improve output with chairs, now chairs with wood is very slow. Fish for food, was one of the first buildings placed but never got finished, even with pop over 300.

I plant next to the river then add canals, again struggle with food even at 93% fertility. The lack of wild plants to harvest also hurts. People eating more food then they should? Animal farms have low outputs ....

Lizard farm 40/53 animals, Per year meat 18, eggs 74, animals 2
cow/bull farm 14/23 animals per year meat 146, leather 146 animals 12
pig farm 28/41 animals, per year meat 131, animals 6

Fruit farm 1 94% fertility yield per year 525
Fruit farm 2 72% fertility yield 0, waiting to harvest. est 326
Veggie farm 1 85% fertility yield 514
veggie farm 2 68% (with canals) yield 0, waiting on harvest est. 326
Grain farm 1 1 82% fertility, yield 2.8k
Bakery yield per year 108

5 years in the game
Fish farm 82/92 chairs 68/68 stone. Before it was stone/wood, bonus to add chairs.
Chair production 203 last year, 36 this year, 0 workers,

Game year 5 economy collapse input 991, output 347, pop 166, still no fish farm or clay pit.
Game year 4 food input 1.6k, output 1.9k pop 306
Game year 3 food input 1.5k, output 1.3k

Ores/mines good location but need to mine the mountain.
Game year 2 food input 966, output 918
Game year 1 food input 340, output 430

Default race and map type, map is big.

Forgot to add hunter 95 meat per year and 26 leather.

Hard to tell since I don't actually play the game, i just listen to feedback. I have tried to make early game more challenging, the "survival" phase, so to speak. But not by a large margin, and your experience is not something I've heard a lot of. I hope I haven't broken it in some hotfix... As a general tip, if you export the eggs, it should fetch you a pretty sum to buy either bread/grain/furniture for.

I don't understand your numbers fully, but looks like your bakary could be increased to use all the grain? Also don't have food rations too high. If all else fails, try an advantage in the menu, no shame in that!

Hmm... I played a while with v61 and then started again with v63 and got no that harsh problems as you described.

For my current game (~1500 pop right now), fishing was the way to go, for the majority of food. Early on mainly supported by foraging, later on I switched to some farms and pens, in order to provide some variety.

Pens are mainly interesting for areas/maps with low fertility, since they need alot of space, but their output isn't affected by it. Besides that, always make sure that you put animals in your pens that fit into the climate you're in. E.g. Lizzards get iirc a 60% penalty in cold climate, which makes them very inefficient, especially early on with no tech and only a very limited number of workers.

For v61, I got up to about 800 pop. My main export was meat, leather (over 1k in storage). Once fruit and veggies hit 1k then export that. Starting to make rations for army and crazy people, with mental hospital. Never really struggled in past games.

I understand survival game for colony. I do play other games and takes a few years to get stable food production. while others have budgets to keep good for city life.

If you want, I can send you save file if you want to look at my game. I might have made mistakes in it but might help out to understand. I will try a new game and see if I can do better.

Fishing is really amazing to get quick food, though it takes a lot of workers. Let me grow to like 600 people of various races before it wasn't enough to keep immigration flowing without getting them favorite food.

if you want to start a new game anyway, take your time and roll for a good seed. One hour in checking maps isn't fun, but given how much time you spend on that map (assuming you get it to run ofc), it's more than worth it.

The new map, working on fishing area. Veggie, fruit, and mushroom farms still need items. People not harvesting the wild ones. Pigs and cows with hunter kinda helping out.

Game says temperate map but feels like a cold map without the bonuses. Keep getting extreme cold weather and snow stays on the ground until late spring.

Yes, please send the save, might be that I can add a little tip in-game for your problems. Saves are in the launcher -> info. Send to info@songsofsyx.com

Playing game for first time. So just for another POV, finding it pretty straightforward so far. I like the furniture limitation, helps give a sense of progress. I'm probably doing too many industries/services at once, but still have 20+ food days.

Fish seem good at the start.

SilverSpeedy, they only harvest the wild items when they're ripe, seems to generally be late summer. So sometimes it means you need to wait a while, working with the seasons. If you make your first farms too big, they won't find enough wild stuff. So start small, like any small community would. Then you use your small farm output to build bigger farms.

One game, i had about 1k of each food type, few years later, everything was near 0% only difference was pop increase.

Heyo my current city for v63 is at 1400 poeple with 1100 Humans and 300 Dondorians. I noticed that upgrading your production buildings via research e.g. bakeries helps a lot with food production.

I have 32 12x12 grain farms with a 4x4 water hole in the middle running. Each with 1 worker. And six 19 workers bakeries with 1 upgrade. I'm currently having 26k grain and 6.5k bread stored and I'm producing more than needed by the bakeries.

This how a part of it looks like:

It's missing some roads in between though...

Also make food and clothes your first priority to scale when it comes for what to research and what to build.

I've also just written a guide with my expieriences. Maybe some of you might get something out of it and make it past 1000 too =D

i start off by spamming hunters 6 should be good enough for a few hundred . have u considered raiding your neighbors for their food . one more thing if ur food production isnt keeping up with pop growth maybe its better to let a few die off till u sort it out . some will be angry for a while but all that will go away .
