Laboratory not producing
It was producing a max of 220 at first. I added some more stations and have a total of 18 workers. It went up to 330. But now it stays at 68 (after using some knowledge). I see my workers in the labs working. What am I doing wrong with this?

Check your total science points produced by the lab. Then go into the research tab and see your total science points. These should be about the same.

There will be some minor changes but overall it should be the same, within a few percentage points back and forth.

Basically you can research up to a maximum amount of points depending on how many research buildings you have. You can click on the lab and see how many it can support, and that will likely be what you spent +68, give or take some. To research more you need to build another research building.

Thanks for the help. In my town the research goes into negative after I spent the points.
At first there where a few points left and than it ticks down into minus and goes on.
Is this normal or a bug?

It's mostly normal, smaller fluctuations don't have a negative effect anymore. Sometimes people slack off, diseases make them unable to get to work and maintain knowledge, or libraries could be running out of paper.

ok. Thank you

I really dislike this mechanic. I have a huge lab that can house 32 people but somehow building a second building will allow me to gain points again? How does that make any sense.

knowledge needs to be maintained

I would agree to that. However 10 buildings with 1 person vs 1 building with 10 people seems like it should be the same value unless I'm missing something here.

I dont understand your question. the knowledge comes from people.

Yeah but when you build that second building, you need to staff it with additional researchers (so now you have more than 32 researchers), and this is what gives you the boost. Otherwise yes, just shuffling your workers around wont change your output, assuming every building has the same upgrades/efficiency/proximity to support buildings.

It's a clunky system, I would agree, and the dev has stated that it is slated for some rebalancing. But the idea is to attack what he sees as a problem, in that with other games you can just tech up and forget about it, and he wants this to be more of an ongoing requirement from the player. There are other ways to go about this, surely, and here the dev is actually quite open to feedback and has happily implemented player-sourced changes which he saw as beneficial.
I like the current system. Kowledge is just a product, like everything else. I want more bread? I build more bakers. I want more research-points? I build more labs.

Seems like the tech tree is a new player trap

Yes, but you eat bread. You don't eat knowledge and that is what is sticking with most players I believe, well that and the fact that it just takes so many workers to supply the points needed to sustain basic technologies.

point still stands. I also *lose* bread. there is a net-outcome for both. bread gets eaten. research points get spent.
