how do you sell anything?

I've built an export depot and keep messing with the sliders and what not. but nothing ever seems to sell, nor do i have any $$. in fact, i can't even see where $$ is kept track of

The whole process of selling takes few days after you set the slider to sell the good over % of your warehouse capacity for that good. First the trader (in your town) needs to gather goods in trading depot. Then it takes few days for the trader from the other city to arrive and buy good from the depot.
Basically just leave the slider be for few days. Oh and remeber to have a worker assigned in your depot
