M1 Mac Issue
Hey, So I tried to play demo on M1 Macbook Air. There are a lot of issues that prevent to play the game at all.

1. After pressing play and play again game just close itself and nothing happens.
2.When moving launcher window to second screen it goes crazy and change resolution on its own but don't change the window size. Also it seems that "buttons" are where they were on the screen just viuals are resized.

Anyone had those issues on M1 Mac?

I can't actually make sense of M1 and opengl support. I think it does work on certain M1:s and the way I understand it is that M1 is in the process of adding opengl support. I might have to put a disclaimer somewhere, thanks for reporting it!

Yeah there are also a bunch of issues with M1 and intel based VM's these days.. Best bet I guess would be to run a VM on your M1 and inside that play the game, ofc having installed necessary drivers on VM.

The game stopped working on my comp after I updated the OS to Monterey so it may be the OS being the issue more than Apple`s new M1 chips (mine is intel though). The game worked fine before upgrading the OS. Another game that stopped working was Mindustry and would crash on start as well. The developer put out a beta branch and now it works so if the issue is same there does seem to be a way around it (would have to ask Mindustry developer what he did though). That game needs opengl support as well.

Oh, thank you, interesting...

Do you get to the launcher at all, or does nothing happen when you try to run it?

Does factorio work though?

I don't dare approach the Mindustry guy, but can't find any info on a potential fix in this matter. I'm going to fire up my old mac and see if it wants to update to Menterery and if I can reproduce it.

I think I'm having the same, or at least similar issue. Not sure if mine is a M1 or not, Running Big Sur 11.6. When I launch it looks like a proper title screen, then it goes a mess a few seconds in and I can't see anything. Could possibly drop some screenshots via discord if wanted, just joined, I'm BurgerDaddy there.

That sounds like it's the steam overlay though? A know issue, and actually caused by steam. You must disable steam overlay for the game.

I installed Monterey on my 2019 imac today, and while I could still start the game, it behaves completely different, and doesn't fit in the game window. This has been a problem that I thought was resolved, sigh. So I'll fix that at least.

The launcher does start but when I get to the mod screen (no mods) and hit play a crash report shows up almost instantly but a java program does pop up in the active program part of the dock and after about 10 seconds that self-closes. I looked through the crash report and I saw an error here. I can put up the whole report if you like (pretty long...)

On a side note, whatever changes Apple did recently has messed up stability of steam games in general for me at least. I get screen freezes sometimes with sound still working and then eventually crashes me out completely to the user log-on screen. Never had that problem before and makes me want to downgrade the OS. Doesn`t happen too much so going to wait and see if they fix over the next few months.

I managed to update my mac to the latest version, and I can reproduce this. I had to reinstall the steam client as well, because that wasn't working initially. Game seems to work though, if one bypasses the launcher, but it's a bit hacky. I'll most probably manage to resolve this, if it's possible. thanks a lot for the detailed description.

After further examination, I can conclude that it's the steam launcher messing up the game somehow. Im able to run the game fine through the. I don't know why this it, but if someone can confirm, I'll report the bug to steam. They have o choice than to listen to good ol Jake.

I also discovered that turning of RCP I the launcher seems to work, even with steam launcher, so must be the communication with the steam client at fault here.

Anything we could do to "workaround" it? I could try to check if this is working. Turning off steam overlay only eliminated the "white screen" after couple seconds all of issues I wrote in the first post are still there

So what we mac users can do for now for as easy workaround is launch the game directly till a fix comes in. Go to manage, browse local files and start the game from there and not through the steam program. I just tried it and started up for me too, though I`ll have play it later to see if it plays fine. It`s not the overlay(?) but trying to start it through steam/launcher I guess(?). I`ll edit this later after getting a chance to play and check better.

Edit: game seems to run fine but fullscreen resolution is funky and got unreachable buttons or the dock is visible and overlapping the bottom of the screen and covering buttons. I played around with windowed and reduced the game window down enough to be playable. Not ideal but can still play.
