Mac: Current issues and potential workarounds

Hello, and sorry for all of the issues we're currently having on Mac!

It appears that the steam overlay has been causing the Mac client some grief, but there's good news! It appears that disabling the Steam overlay solves all (hopefully) of the issues we've had.

How to disable the overlay: Steam Library > Song of Syx - Properties > Unselect "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game"

(Properties can be found by right-clicking the game, or clicking the gear on the far right side of the play button)

Alternatively, you can just launch the game from its folder: Steam Library > Song of Syx- Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files

Workaround for the resolution issue that showed up with today's patch: in Settings switch to "Windowed" mode, full resolution. Seems to work.

Great. Problem is mac has dropped support for openGL, the technology I'm working with. Instead they want all developers to use a mac specific thing. I don't know if I can hold the game together for mac honestly. Might have to issue refunds for you guys, if such a thing is possible.

No worries, I'm glad to support you as much as you're willing to go. Hopefully things can continue, but Apple ..... well Apple is Apple ;)

Saw this after attempting this myself. I can confirm this solved issues on my Mac.

This problem is still persisting.
i tested the game on my Mac Pro 16 inch and still loads with a small viewport.
i tried all the workarounds. With some luck and changing the screen to windowed mode i was able to see partially the game a some red flickering view behind which would explode someone's with epilepsia :D

The game seem really fun and promising, I hope it can be fixed soon.

Steam seem to have reverted their fix on the overlay, so that is back. Screen resolution issues are mostly resolved, though it still persists for some. Apart from that, I think it works for most mac users, although a few are having their own exotic problems.

So if you're a potential mac buyer, make sure you're willing to use steam's refund thing if it doesn't work for you. I'm trying to fix all problems, but some are just too rare and exotic for me to have a clue how to.

I have tried disabling the Steam Overlay, and that did not help. All clickable UI options are about a quarter inch away from (to the bottom and left) of where they appear on screen. With these issues, I am able to access settings, but I do not see the option for Widowed mode, though I do see Window Scale.

Thank you. This has been resolved in the version after the demo. I will update the demo to this version soon.

When I open it i still get the app bar at the bottom and top bar with like date and time and stuff. Any workarounds past this? I can't minimise it or anything

You have to play in full screen.
