I guess it'll give a bit of shards in the end - but I'll try to do it anyway :D
Edit: Diving is repeatable, so my guess is that there is a set amount of sea shards to be had from the pillar, but that I am using the wrong method of gathering it.
That's how I finally got the underwater diving ability. this blessing costs 1000 shards.
Diving at the blue light beam/ nautilus statue, I also got the 0 shards feedback like you did Baelas for each dive I did (many - almost until I had no stamina left - bearly made it back to my boat :D )- but in the end, I think i got an additionnal slot in my "blue" tool bar! I kept a copy of the savefile just before diving, so I'll be able to try again to confirm.
