I dont understand the negative reviews
Read the title..

Honestly, as someone who HAS been sailing, I find this game unbelievably relaxing. I'm so used to "survival" mechanics that I'm just numb to them now. "Oh, my character's hungry? Guess I'll hunt the wildlife on this island to extinction to forego that in the future." But the sailing is very close to how things would work IRL. Bring your sail in too taut, wind hits it at the right angle, and you will capsize. This is how physics works.

Anyone expecting sailing to be easy is kidding themselves. As for the combat? I mean, she isn't Link. She will not be as fast, deadly or precise as he is. In fact, considering she's a tribal hunter, I don't expect her to be the Hero of Time. That's asinine.

As for combat being "clunky" or the game's sailing/stamina mechanics feeling "unfinished". Have you ever tried to tread water in full clothing while carrying gear and various doodads of varying weight? Have you ever actually tried to swim from shore to an island? I have. I got exhausted and got a cramp halfway there. Thank goodness for the group that was swimming there with me. I got on a wake board and paddled until my leg cramp went away, and then gave it to someone else who was tired and kept swimming. A 2km swim is no joke. It takes a lot of effort. Swimming 100 feet with all that gear? Might as well be a 2km swim.

The reviews are based on people wanting instant gratification. Spoiler alert, there isn't any. Yes the game has its issues, but the mechanics make sense the way they are. You're SUPPOSED to poke and dodge enemies. You're supposed to find high ground to whip rocks from so you don't get charged or battered. You're supposed to find a good balance of wind/sail tightness or risk capsizing and being stuck in the ocean. Have you ever tried to flip a capsized sail boat? Even the Laser II (a pretty decently sized boat meant for 2 people) is hard to flip back right side up! And then you have to bail out the water!

So, yeah, all these negative reviews? They're from people who don't know anything about any of these mechanics in reality. Their opinions mean very little to me. Let them be mad. Anyone who finds sailing relaxing will love this game. Anyone who likes rogue lites/likes will love this game. To the rest? Well, not all games are meant for everyone. Don't set your bar so high in the future.

I want to like this game but it's pretty terrible thanks to some awful design decisions. The combat and movement is so slow and clunky. Sailing is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful and going against the wind is basically impossible, which makes the game unplayable if you spawn on the south of the map and all the islands are to the north, and the wind is blowing against you. Why the hell can't you paddle once you build a sail? Nope gotta build a new boat just to paddle.

Movement is nightmarishly slow and clunky. Why does it take your character 5 seconds to get up when knocked down. Combat is either super easy and you spear a guy 10x in a row cause they just sit there or glitch out on a rock... Or you get stun locked and get knocked over by an enemy continuously even though the animations aren't even close to lining up. Movement in games like Breath of the Wild is 10x more fluid and makes you actually feel like you're in control. This game does not, all they had to do was copy the movement system from a game like that but instead we get this garbage. Climbing animation is God awful slow.

The base gameplay loop of crafting I enjoy, but sailing and combat are so half-assed it's not even funny. Don't starve offers a much more compelling loop for reference, and that's clearly an inspiration here. I don't care if the sailing is "realistic", it's ♥♥♥♥ for gameplay and tediously awful. Either give me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wind song to change the direction of the wind like wind waker, or let me ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ use my stupid magic paddle after I've added a sail. Speed up the animations to double or triple to fix some of the sluggishness.

At least the graphics and atmosphere and music are nice, but most everything else feels like an early access title that no one ever actually playtested.

Anybody who expected some masterpiece from an indie dev group are clowning themselves, especially with the pandemic going on.

The game has issues and it didn't help that they designed it to rival Zelda games, but one must remember that the franchise is decades old, so of course it's going to be a disappointment if you expect a proper comparison.

Man I wish people understood that

I hate survival so all my complaints are levelled at that, but really I shouldnt have bought it in the first place. I think sometimes devs try to make things "real" as opposed to gamey and I think they have done this here there is just too much fat on the bone tldr the crafting is hard. Also have you seen the fall damage!?! Haha I must admit I did give it a thumbs up though in my review.

Totally agree about the fall damage, Kara must be made from balsa wood or something.

Differing opinions, if you like the game, that's cool, many, including myself, did not.

Does that justify the negative review bombing?

How is it review bombing? Have you read the reviews? I've found most of them pretty valid.

Yeah, "I can't figure out how to play" and "omg this isn't zelda" are definitely valid reviews

Oh no those are nonsense, of course, that's the unfortunate reality of steam reviews sadly, but I would like to think my negative review, as well as some of the other reviews that appear on the store page, are fairly valid?

Oh man, I'm getting worried about this game and may get a refund on it before I even play it. I purchased it yesterday before work so I could get the preorder bonus. I was going to play it last night but I didn't make it home in time, so I went to the forums to see if they fixed the preorder issue. Seems they still haven't gotten that in check, so I decided to wait until today since I have the day off.

After reading countless negative reviews and the fact that the preorder bonus is still messed up, I'm not sure I backed the correct pony here. :ALgloomEmoji:

Okay let me ask you this, does the game deserve mostly negative rating now?

Honestly? Yes, the game isn't very good in my opinion, its at best, like a 5/10 for me, so I would say mostly negative is correct. Again, that's my opinion though.
