Stat Rank Leveling Guide
Breeders of the Nephelym is a game that at first glance seems like a rather light game with not much to it; the world is small, there's only a handful of quests and you might even be wondering what's the point of having fast travel if I can just run down the hill and be there in no time. It's not until you start trying to understand how the game works that you start realizing just how complicated it really is.

I, like most new players, started browsing these forums looking for answers and there's been one question I've seen asked a few times but it has always seemed to go unanswered. That question is "How do you level your breeders stat ranks?"

Early on I didn't even really understand the question. I thought "what does he mean by breeder? Is he referring to his favorite high level nephelym with all his favorite traits that he uses for breeding? and what does he mean by stat rank? is that the roman numerals over the traits?"

This game is so complicated that even after 760 hours in game I still don't know jack about breeding. I've been spending all that time primarily focusing on leveling my player character; the Human:Breeder, that a later realized is what all those questions were referring to, which is why this guide is specifically about leveling your characters stat ranks and nothing else.

I don't know if those questions remained unanswered because no one has ever figured it out or maybe some players have figured it out and just aren't sharing or maybe the question has been answered and I just haven't seen those posts but in either case I was left to figure it all out by myself. Now, I'm not claiming to have it all figured out but I think I have enough of it figured out to be worth sharing.

To start off I'm going to cover some stuff that most of us already know but just to not leave behind any brand new players that might be just as clueless as I was when I started.

First off, What are these stat ranks I keep hearing about and who are these stat guys anyway?
In game hit the "I" key and that will bring up a window with all the information relevant to your character; lust meter, level progress bar and all your stats of which there are five; Strength, Dexterity, Willpower, Allure and Fertility.

To the right of the stat names are the numbers that are pretty self explanatory. This is what the game is comparing to the stats of what ever nephelym you might be "battling" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) If your strength is higher than the nephelym's strength you'll win the strength part of the battle and since 5 is an odd number you only have to win three of the five stat comparisons to with the "battle".

To the left of the stat names you'll see a single uppercase letter. If you've just started a new game they'll all be E's. These are the stat ranks and they range from E all the way up to A and even S which is the highest stat rank there is. These letters or stat ranks determine how much that stat will increase each time your character levels up a level; the higher the stat rank the more that stat goes up when you level which is why it's good to level those stat ranks as early as possible so your stats will go up faster.

Okay that covers all the basics of what the stat ranks are and why we want to level them now we can start talking about what it took me 760 hours in game to figure out; yes I am a slow learner. I'm sorry it took so long but better late than never, right?

The first thing I noticed was that you can level yourself up really fast by breeding yourself with nephelym in the breeding pen. I tried this just as an experiment to see what the off spring would look like not even realizing it would level my character in the process when suddenly I noticed "Holy cow! Level 75! How did that happen?". I thought I had just made some great discovery until I realized that your stat ranks do not increase at all when you level this way. Yes, your stats will go up as you level but only by that little bit that's governed by your low stat ranks so you're basically kneecapping yourself by leveling that way.

Your stat ranks only increase by "battling" the nephlym in the wild and giving them fluids to capture them doesn't work either; in fact, you don't even get any xp for leveling when you give them fluids. It's a long tedious and grindy process but it's the only way.

Armed with that knowledge I set out leveling a character in that slow way and eventually made another discovery. At level 38 I had four of my five stat ranks all the way up to S with those stats being at 1500 which seems to be a hard cap on the stats as far as I can tell. My last remaining stat rank was fertility at rank A and I ground through levels 39, 40 and 41 without the fertility stat ranks increasing to S. As you can imagine I was getting quite frustrated that the game wasn't coughing up my last S rank. To take a break from the grind I decided to go visit the Risu area. Yeah, some cute and fuzzy bunnies are what I need to cheer me up about now and right after I "battled" my first bunny my fertility finally ranked up to S rank.
Then I looked at another bunnies stats, and then another and another and noticed they all had really high Fertility. I facepalmed myself, "Of course! Bunnies and Easter eggs are the very symbols of fertility." lol

Then I went a payed a visit to every other nephelym area and realized that every species has theur own kind of primary stat or specialty stat and I could probably level my stat ranks faster if I focus on a species who's primary stat is the one I'm trying to level at the moment.

SPECIALIZATIONS:

Bee girls = Dexterity
Fox Girls = Dexterity
Wolf Girls= Strength
Bunny Girls=Fertility
Seraphim = Allure
Elf Girls = Willpower
DrenaiGirls=Fertility
FeatheredHarpy=Willpower
Bat Harpy = Dexterity
NekoGirls = Allure
HorseGirls= Fertility and Dexterity
SharkGirls= Dexterity
Cambrions = Willpower
Succubi = Allure

I don't know about the orcs goblins or minotaurs since I never touch them. yuck.

Another thing I noticed is that when you lose a "Battle" you get a lot more xp than when you win a battle; almost as if DerlictHelmsman doesn't want us to lose too much and get put off so he throws us a bone to try get us leveled up to a point where we stop losing. But since our goal is to get our stat ranks leveled as early as possible it's in our best interest to really try to avoid losing as all that xp amounts to a lot of missed opportunities to level our stat ranks.

And following that same logic I've been assuming the same thing might be true for the individual stat comparisons as well so maybe when you lose a stat comparison we get a bit more help towards leveling that stat rank than we would if we had won that comparison and since we really only need to win three out of five of those stat comparisons to win the battle I've been focusing on only battling nephelym who's primary stat is higher than mine but the rest are low enough for my to win the overall battle.

Hard to say for sure if that's really true or not since we don't get to see any progress bars showing us how close we are to our next stat rank increase, but following that method...

My Human:Breeder achieved her first S rank in Fertility early in level 26 at 544/5220
Achieved second S rank in Allure also early in level 26 at 968/5220
Third S rank in Dexterity happened just as her level clicked over to 27 at 26/5793
The Fourth S rank was Willpower at level 27 at 1482/5793
The fifth and final S rank was strength at level 27 2483/5793
And at level 29 all 5 stats had reached their hard cap of 1500 and that's as powerfull as that character will ever be.

I'm attaching the game save as a proof of concept. It's a Futa and no cheats were used at all, not even "go home" and no nephelym were harmed in the making of this game save, although quite a few were sent to live on a farm in upstate NY. lol

I saved this game in slot 15 thinking that would be less likely to overwrite anyone's preexisting save. If you happen to have filled app all 16 save slots just rename this file to what ever save slot number you're comfortable with overwriting.

To load this saved game extract it where ever you want, navigate to Local Disk (C:)/Users/username/AppData/Local/OBF/Saved/SaveGames and put the .sav file in there and then launch the game.

You can rank up your stats in the breeding pen, just make sure you pair your breeder with the right nephilim.

For example if you want to rank up strength, do it with a nephilim with equal or higher strength.

Have they changed the player information window? When i press the "i" key i don't get anything, i haven't been able to figure out how to bring up that window at all

The issues with this guide as far as I can see are as follows:
1. hitting "I" in games does nothing and I cannot figure out how to open the stats window you're describing from another way. Tried all of the keys save for ones I know are used for movement or MISC things such as interacting.

2. The ONLY specializations that are shown on a girl's profile now as of the latest update are Libido
Fertility
Aptitude
and nothing else. Unless they are hidden in another tab/window and I have yet to find them.

3. The whole leveling system has been changed AGAIN, and so has how the areas and how you level them now and I have NO CLUE how to level them now..... The Dev gave us NOTHING to go on for this new update..... Literally little to nothing in the patch notes on Steam. They might be written somewhere else, but not on Steam....

So as of right now this guide is useless unless ur playing on older versions

Game Version 0.761.4 as of Nov 23, 2024 (2024-11-19)
Let's not forget that each update comes with new save file "build" references. So the old save file does not load correctly, even if you do update the hexadecimal data on the resource build number in the save file. I've tried and the game crashes when entering the barns, yet everything else seems to work.

I do need to understand the new mechanics. I'm stuck on E rank for the 3 available specialized attributes. My level is 100+.

FYI notes; there are 4 types of ranks:
1) EDCBAS for Libido-Fertility-Aptitude,
2) I/II/III for Traits, and
3) Common/Uncommon/Rare/??? for Rarity.
4) Essence Level (1,2,3,4,5) of the area, originally World Level.
Rarity/Levels of wild Nephelym are determined by Breeder(Player)'s Level(by 1/2? +1).
The "???" Rarity used to be Legendary and Mythic.

Game version 0.761.1 is broken, and the breeder ranks are bugged, to never increase.
This is fixed in version 0.761.52, the Patron version.
In the Patron version, The player can breed with captured Nephilims in the breeding yard, and increase breeder (player) ranks as per normal.

The steam version is bugged. You cannot currently increase breeder ranks.

Edit; I recommend reverting to an older, working version. I do not recommend the Patron version. Paying for a bug fix is just...wrong on so many levels.

I agree. Thanks.
Surprisingly my older save file actually does work, but my captured herd has 0 of the special stats. It's still playable. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the older resource files. Maybe IPTorrent has a backup copy.

Off-Topic Note: Then there's "Carnal Instinct"............"another day, another nub."........
