Problems with Chapter 3 and a Half
Spoilers ahead, obviously.

By the end of Chapter 3 I had run out of events when at fourth place in the tournament and was just mindlessly training and working and eating to get more tournament fights. I had to fight the #1, Jax, twice because the first win didn't give me enough points to go over him. It was also especially painful because I couldn't train to make time to pass while students were in Mick's gym, even after maxing out training.

But then there's an entire long Chapter 3.5 with only one fight (I might have skipped the second via dialogue), but tons of running around the city and looking for clues. I did the whole thing in one in-game day because I had to wait for Silver's gym to open. I was happy for the change of pace, but then it just kept going on and on, with a ton of similar scenes and no breaks in between. I didn't even have any tournament fights to look forward to, and training students got reduced to every 3 days instead of every 2. The big mystery would have been better if it didn't happen all at once.

I wish these two parts of the game were more carefully mixed, with extra steps or jobs required to advance the story. Maybe some kind of Decrypting or Fueling required for the Scanner so I have something to work toward in addition to the tournament fights.

I just entered what seems like Chapter 4 so we'll see if that is a better experience.

With the next update, I hope they can change it so the Scanner storyline happens before you finish the First Division tournament. That would keep you more intrigued than just getting the whole story at once at the end of the game, and give you something to do in between fights and work.

I don't know about the Police route, but for the Sensei route it seemed like it was building up to something where the students were starting to take you for granted. I was hoping for some kind of epic conclusion where you have to fight all your students in a gauntlet. Maybe next time.

Does anyone know what triggers events?
Is it days passed or doing certain things or a combo of the two?
I've gone through the whole 2nd division while only ever talking to Uncle Barry at the very beginning and the very end, missing all the related events inbetween.
Only thing i did differently was i would often skip to the highest level fight i could do at that point in time.

I think defeating certain specific fighters may in some cases trigger things. So you should aim to fight each fighter in the division at least once.

Totally agree regarding chapter 3.5. Feels like there's all this rushed running around "story" stuff with not much actually happening (as you said, one fight).

It definitely would have been much better if this had been spaced out a bit better, so you had something interesting to do in-between all the job shifts and normal fights (like most of the other chapters up to that point).
