Losing to inferior stats?
Hello,
So I have noticed I would lose fights, lets say top to bottom my stats are 7, 4, 7 and my opponent is 4, 4, 3. We have the same "moves" and bonuses from the same "school" and yet I can lose the fight? I tend to run out of energy way quicker than they do - even with better stats. Why is this?

Foremost, 7 strength with 7 stamina is not a good proportion. Strength increases your Health and the Power of your attack skills, but it also makes your offensive abilities more energy hungry. I would recommend at least a 2 to 3 ration depending on your skill set, maybe even 1 to 2 in favor of stamina.

If you take off one or more attack skills, your avatar will randomly take a breather and regenerate some energy in the fight. This will still count as one of your actions, however your opponent will get to regenerate energy that way in your turn phase.

That's probably why you feel your opponents never run out of energy.

Along with the other things it does strength (the red stat) increases stamina costs for skills. Each skill shows a modifier for damage and for stamina consumption of the form X + YY% str = output.

The YY%s are extremely important for low level skills, which might be as extreme as 1 + 80% str. So if you have 1 strength your dodge might cost 1 stamina to (attempt to) execute, but at 6 str it will cost 5*. Taking it from extremely good to extremely bad:

Later on this scaling settles down a lot, because the base is higher and the increases are proportionally much, much less of the total cost, but moving up the strength scores from 1 to about 8 is a bit wonky and you need to be careful.

Strength does also increase damage output on offensive skills, but seemingly never by as much as it increases energy costs. It also unlocks more red skills to use and increases your base health.

I would fully say that 1/8/4 is a better build against almost any opponent than 6/8/4 for these reasons.

*Due to rounding there are some oddities with some values, where the in fight per hit loss doesn't seem to match the displayed output.

Thanks guys! That makes way more sense, I didn't notice the + right after the strength, my brain just read it that the strength at 80% of the value was added to the damage.
Well.... I can't really lose strength so I got to figure out what to do next. I'll look at my number and post it in here, so far I can't beat Huey or the sewer dude.

yeah i'm getting hella ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mad at this, 7,4,5 stats and losing against huey for the second time. so do i need to ramp up my strength even more so i have the energy to even be able to throw punches and not pick one/two offensive moves to not run out of energy?

Stats do not mean everything. They will help a lot, but there’s a lot of strategy involved with selecting the right skills to combat the opponent’s build.

There might be still one strategy left for you, if you really want to go into a strength based build. Strength increases your health and damage output, maybe you can deal just enough damage fast enough to knock him out before he does.
With your low stamina you have to be really conservative though.
I would say one heavy hitting punch or kick only, no block or dodge - crazy i know but with your health advantage you can take the hits - and as for utility, mix in whatever really benefits you the most. Accuracy > Dmg > Energy/Action Reduction
You might want to get more agility for one more action too.

I chose red path and use nearly only Path of the Lazy Bear and Flycatcher. So I'm not sure what start I should train most, I got through whole game having every stat same (now I have 18,18,18 and I've nearly everytime won so far) so I would appreciate if I got some tip If I should more focused on one of them or keep leveling all of them at once

Different Builds requires you to Focus on different Stats - but you have to balance them.
It is NOT a good idea to train every stats! (So 18-18-18 is actually a waste of time)

If you are going for Red (STR build) then focus to train your Strength.
But early on, You need to train a bit of STA as well, so you wont run out of energy.

The trick is : DO NOT train AGI at all.
The reason for this : Agility will affect how many actions you can do, and with Big STR, more actions = more energy used. You will find yourself run out of energy quickly & ends up cannot doing any actions in the end.
You will naturally gain some AGI (by doing jobs / renovating Mick's Gym) and that's okay.

My STR Build stats progress look something like this :
(Not 100% accurate, as I don't take screenshots / write down anything - just by memory)
Early game : 5-1-3 then 10-2-7
Mid game : 15-3-10 then 20-4-15

After you hit 21+ STR, you will have acces to alot of perks that Reduce your Energy use,
(ex: use less 60% energy if enemy dodge your attck, etc)
then at this point you can Focus heavily on STR / no need to worry about STA anymore.
You can start training AGI a little to be able to do more actions at this point.

End Game stats for STR build around 30-8-16 should be okay to defeat any opponents
(Of course you need to pick the correct perks according to your enemy!)

Hope this helps.
