Does Anyone Have Any Tips For a Beginner?
I've entered the strange new world of motorcycles hoping I could transfer some of my car racing knowledge to motorcycles, but apparently that's not the case. xD I struggle to get corner entry, apex, and exit right, and I don't really understand what the bike is doing. I started my career in Moto 3 and it seems like Moto 3 bikes seem to lose traction when you lean and suddenly finds loads of traction as soon as you start to stand the bike up, and I don't know if that's how it works in real life or if that's a bug/wonky physics/both. I also don't know what advantage I could gain by moving my rider's weight forward or backwards.

on the moto3's i found turning the traction control down or off made them handle better. Shift your weight forward in a corner puts more weight over the front wheel meaning it will turn tighter (Oversteer) moving the weight backwards in a turn will make it understeer. On a hard braking corner shifting the weight backwards will stop the bike doing a stoppy. Shifting the weight forward on hard acceleration will stop a wheely (or minimise it). Trail braking is really important on these bikes. They use a fast in slow out method which sounds counter-intuitive coming from car racing with it's slow in fast out system.

Wait bikes have traction control now!? I didn't know that. Do they have any other electronic aids? Also do you happen to know where I can learn about bike setups? I just started getting into car setups and it made me find about an extra second on most tracks, so there's probably another second or so waiting for me on the tuning side of things. lol

i know nothing about setups... i just ride what they give me.

Electronics wise:- Moto3 has TCS and Power mapping
Moto2 Has Anti Wheelie and power mapping (No TCS which to me makes them the most interesting)
MotoGP Has TCS, AW and Power mapping

Oh and Engine Brake management on all

Hmm... When is less engine braking ideal?

No idea.
You need more practice with your trigger finger for the throttle. Eventually you'll gain more accuracy and won't slip the rear as much. Just keep putting in more laps.

It depends on your riding style. The engine brake functions as a rear brake that is activated when you are not on the throttle. If you like to ride smooth, fast, flowing lines then you should set you Engine Brake lower. If you brake late and hard and often "back it in" to the corners then keep it high because you probably are either on the rear brake or accelerating.

Basically, if there are times when you only want to use the front brake (because you're trail braking into a corner) then you may want to try lower Engine Braking.

I updated my guide with more info in the relevant section.

Alright, thanks guys! :D

I don't know much about the setups in the garage either, but motogp has a really nice guided tuning system where you basically just tell the mechanic how the bike is behaving in plain english and he recommends the proper adjustment. I really like it.

Yea but it sure helps to know what's what in my experience. xD Project CARS 2 has something like that but I was to be able to make better setup changes than the game could once I started learning what was what.
Not trying to be condescending, but tuning helps quite a bit. The Hertz KTM bike was a pig in the corners until it took several tuning setups to dial that out.

And yeah, if you do the mechanic route, go look at what they changed, and you'll probably gain more if you tweak it yourself further.

hahaha you'll feel like in hell when you start racing with moto2 and GP bikes, moto 3 disable all the electronics, they're not necessary, maybe TCS (traction control) 1 or 2 in case of a heavy rain. 2 and GP are more..tricky, I recommend you to use the free practice a lot and go online, don't be afraid, it's hella funny racing online trust me, just practice don't give up.

oh, btw, try and play with the gasoline and the "POT" (potency) mapping, you're supposed to race using config. 1, but carrying more gas means you can abuse of mapping 2, eventually going faster.
