Even if you don’t plan to read it, I recommend looking at section 1.2, because it contains extremely important information about the hidden mechanics of weapons that make your starting Dagger the best weapon for confortably initiate the game.
But if you want to know answers to your questions right now, then I’m ready to tell them. Anything further is a spoiler, so read at your own discretion.
Shards and Galaxies
A game world made of a series of Zones is a Shard. Several Shards lined in a row, that ends with a Black Hole, is a Galaxy. You can find a screenshot of a Galaxy on the game's page:

Galaxy map
Since you are not supposed to know about Shards from the very beginning, the game hides certain user interface elements, until you reach a point, when you actually need them.
Flame power
It's a "Candles to Black Wax" conversion ratio. By default it's equal to x1, but every time you complete a Shard, this value will be updated, depending on the total amount of Black Wax obtained from Candles through Rituals in your current Galaxy. So, when you see an "Accept Reward and leave the Shard" button, don't press it immideately - perform 1-2 extra Rituals instead. It won't be hard, because all bosses of your current Shard will be down, but it will noticeably increase your flame power. There is no reason to overfarm it (for another reason), so 1-2 will be enough in most cases.
while i do understand the diea of hiding the mechanic, i think they hide it for a biiiiit too long. i was about to drop the game simply because it seemed broken at this point.
