Pottery Grading
Most of my items are grade A, B, C

I also have S and SS which I don't understand why.
The pieces received a good numeric score and seem to be popular so I'm confused.

did you ever figure this out?

No, are you able to help please?

Some things I make I think are rubbish but get good scores and others that I'm pleased with get low scores. Just can't work it out.

The firing stage is where you get the score keep the drying and heating sections near on perfect.

how about the rank? i always get a C rank even when i think i did a good job other than the first ones. weird.
somewhere I read that when you heat the pots, in addition to the mouse you should repeatedly press the R key, but in truth after that I don't find much difference in the class of the pot

You need to use an expensive glaze and do more detailing, probably. That's my way of consistent SS.

Is this the grading order?

SSS - top grade
SS
S
A
B
C - lowest grade

yes, though to my recollection there might be SSS on top of that

My experience was that unlocking & using the better clay is what mainly got me higher grades.

When I use white clay and an expensive glaze, I consistently get SSS.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I wish the devs would respond in this forum though.

You have to burn correctly, the score is the value after bruning for ranking. If you burn wrong the meaning is you can see the mistakes after burning. The clay have to be burned from the inside to outside, one mess and this thing is a desaster.

The painting is also necessary use this forms or colors that matches, example if you use tribals, more african style then make sure u match with the colors, africa means yellow or something a little bit red for sunshine simulation. The tribals have to match with the Colors, all together give a SS or higher ranking.

Dont mix to much tribals with other tribals, if u use African style you have to made it African, dont use African with chinese tribals. The reuslt if it matches is SS, if not or the form is other then the presets, mostly c in best case b.

If you start to play they show you the forms and the matches, direct on screen. If you can match this you will have the highest ranks and profits.
I know it’s been years since you asked, but I have an answer! The scoring in this game takes every little thing into account. The firing phase is important for your score, but even more important is the materials you use and how long it takes you to make the piece (measured in the strokes you take in the throwing and coloring phases). Use more expensive clay, glaze, and patterns (ones that were unlocked in later gameplay score higher than base game and early game stuff too). Make sure to really fiddle with the shape when throwing. Even if you change it later, the amount of work you do is what matters in the scoring. Add lots of parts too! The max is 50, and you get extra points for every single part you add. Then when you’re painting just make sure to make tons of paint strokes in different colors and paint over it later. Just have fun with it lol. Then add your more expensive late-game patterns and glaze. I get SSS every single time as long as I use more expensive materials and take longer shaping and coloring the piece!

VERY glad to see someone else actually still plays this gem of a game! Very sad there's no more ongoing development like DLC, its a beautiful game.
