Plant Growth [Minor Spoilers]

I love this game, but once enough days pass, the plant growth gets totally out of control. Yes, there is a good plot reason for that: All the gardeners have left the island or were citizens who are now dead.

But it can be such a downer, trying to navigate through giant forests of untended plants gone feral.

Is there a way to turn off the plant growth? I don't mind the birds and fish breaking really badly, but the plants, that frustrates me a little.

Does turning off the Day / Night cycle thwart it?

The plants never grow, they remain at the same size throughout the game.

It seems like they started out small and definitely grow over the course of the game. They're... enormous by the time I finish collecting evidence. But maybe they're enormous the whole time and I just forgot? Hmm.
