Okay, I finished the demo. It had some good moments. There are some good ideas here. My biggest issue other than what I've talked about already, and a lot of the things others have mentioned, is that I'm supposed to be Robin Hood, yeah? I end up sword fighting an awful lot for a character who's supposed to be an amazing archer. I end up in a face to face fight an awful lot for a character that should be using stealth, traps, and ambush tactics.

I also end up being more afraid of an enemy archer than I am of a group of eight knights with swords and shields. I can easily defeat enemies in melee. Easily. Circle strafe and occasionally left click. That's all I need to do. The longsword often hits them when they can't hit me. Yeah, sometimes the block and I do no damage, but I will win. Every. Time. Even the final fight in the demo was fairly easy. I only had to do that one a single time. It's enemy archers that I fear. As long as they can move and flank me, or shoot when I can't see them I have to be careful. They should fear my arrows, instead archery feels nigh useless in most fights. I mean, it's nice to get a few shots off before they get close, and yes, archery makes it easy to take out enemy archers once you know where they are and once you deal with the melee characters, but overall I think Robin should be much more deadly with the bow, especially those first few surprise shots.

Now, surprise shots are near impossible to get. I pulled off maybe three during the entire game. Usually the enemy sees, hears, or otherwise detects me no matter what I'm doing as long as I'm not too far off. Armoured knights wearing helmets somehow see and hear me while I'm crouched and moving through cover or concealment, yet often I can't see or hear them until they've started attacking. That needs to be the other way around. They should be less aware until *I* start the fight. I'm supposed to be the sneaky one, not them. I'm pretty sure this is just because the AI hasn't been fine tuned yet.

Combat needs a lot of work. It's really poor at the moment. I have no idea what each left click is going to do, or if it's even going to do anything, when I'm using a melee weapon. Usually I swing once, sometimes I don't swing even when I've got plenty of stamina. Sometimes I swing in a combination. I don't seem to have any control over the type of swing or when the combo happens. It's pretty frustrating to click and have nothing happen, too.

Sometimes loot drops through the world, or doesn't appear. I killed a few enemies, and one of them looked like it dropped loot but I couldn't find it after I killed the other enemies in that area. I've also had zero wood drop from trees, and zero ore/stone from boulders.

Looting drives me nuts. Stuff just falls to the ground and I can't take an enemy's armour, weapons, ammo (yeah, I know, sometimes arrows drop), or shields when they die even though I can see the shield sitting there. I really hate games that don't let me take what an enemy is using. Why can't I grab a knight's shield after they drop it? How come I can't grab their weapons? I'd love to have a shield so the enemy archers might have a harder time hitting me, and when my sword gets worn down I'd like to grab a fresh one from an enemy I just killed with arrows. Presumably their gear would be in better shape than mine if I've worn my sword out completely.

I kept coming back to the demo until I completed it. You've done something right, I just couldn't stop playing until I finished it, but you have a huge amount of work to do. Keep going with it, Mean Astronauts. Great studio name and logo, by the way. :steamhappy:

Im very interested in this game, and i personally believe it could easily become one of the most engaging survival games out there, and since this is here i thought i could give a bit of feedback and suggestions for the game?

i know that there will be jobs for villagers in the actual game, but it doesnt seem to be in the demo, and in the list, there is no gatherer role in the list. if it is not planned already, allowing villagers to automatically gather all materials on their own without the need of robinhood should definitely be in the game, but first require some sort of prerequisite. something like a building in the town, or have to first set up a building closer to resources for villagers to get them. it would be boring if no player interference were required, but it would be annoying to have to constantly bring the villagers rocks and wood when the village is surrounded by plenty of trees and rocks to use.

allow players to command the guards during a fight. it would be cool to be able to tell the people you have fighting for you to shoot in volleys, or to form a shield wall. it would also add a whole new way to experience the game, kind of like a rts game, except youre actually present, comparable to M&B. thats a huge step over the basic follower AI most survival games have, and would be very much appreciated, especially after my archer in the demo got himself killed by running too close to some knights with swords, and got butchered, and my shield guy ran in way ahead of me and got overwhelmed.

a walk button. very important for looking cool while approaching an enemy on a battlefield.

banner-holders for when i bring a ton of my guys to go shank some knights. this actually isnt required at all, i just like banners and i think they look cool and intimidate the enemy. its just a very fancy way of flexing, and i doubt it would make much sense for robin hood to show up with a bunch of guys holding banners.

taking over castles. if i kill all the guys inside, taking over a castle and using it as my own would be nice, turning it into a fortress and a personal hangout, and could actually have a purpose ingame, for expanding your city that is. but if something like this were ever to be, im sure a bunch of knights would show up to siege the castle and reclaim it.

picking up arrows after theyre used.

holding feasts in your village! after things go well, celebrations are in order, which would cost a fair bit of food of course, but would make everyone happy and more loyal. you would probably require a tavern of some sort for this though.

traitors. if specific villagers arent happy enough or loyal to you, specifically guards probably, could have a chance of switching sides. not necessary, or important, just a really cool idea imo.

different weapon types and important differences between them. spears and polearms are definitely something this game should have, and they should definitely feel different compared to swords when you fight against them or use them.
swords = overall good, quick attack speed
polearms = slower than swords, but greater range and more damage
spears = PURE range, damage comparable to swords, but a higher crit chance, or can pierce armor better (if this game will have an actual armor system)
on top of this, bows need to be buffed a good bit, but still do the same damage against the armored enemies, but allow players to shoot little weak spots in the armor, like the eyes, the armpits, back of the knees etc. to do a lot of damage or be an insta kill.
a variety of weapons for robin hood, his gang of rebels, and his enemies to use would definitely make the game a little more spicey, and if commands were possible, it would also allow you to do some really neat stuff.

allow your companions to sneak around. combine this with being able to command them, and you can accurately make a path for a group of your followers to sneak around some enemies to shoot or stab them from behind, while you and a few others attack them from the front.

climbing. not really climbing like conan, like scaling walls, more so pulling yourself up ledges, like in mordhau. if the map is designed correctly for it, it could allow for some pretty cool movement and let players sneak around by climbing to places to avoid being spotted, but not be as crazy as something like assassins creed movement, where the game kind of revolved around it.

a building, that allows players to train villagers to be scouts, who will go around the map searching for things of interest to the village and robin hood, like resources to be collected, enemy convoys, incoming enemy raiders (if raids on your village ever become a thing), and more. robin hood doesnt have eyes and ears everywhere, at least not without some help.

children? villagers naturally reproducing is important for expansion, and would be nice to see around the town. a whole system around teaching children to be better than their predecessors would be pretty cool, but honestly, this may not be the game for this.

siege weapons and fire. important for destroying buildings, and adds chaos you have to deal with, along with another purpose for wells.

storms. mother nature is not forgiving, and having the weather be capable of being a threat to anyone out during a storm would be cool.

winter. basically the game going into hell difficulty once in a while. animals become rare, crops die, freezing temperatures, hard to travel long distances. something the player would have to prepare for to survive without problems. perfect time to strike your enemies, and the perfect time for them to strike you.

thats all i can think of right now.

First off; thank you for putting up a demo, informed consumers are happy consumers!

Now to the feedback:
-If tools are going to have durability, then durability needs to be VISIBLE (ALL the time, NOT by surfing through the inventory or trying to find a tiny half-transparent green bar against the green background at the very edge of the screen)
-Having to individually pick up harvested items is ridiculous
-A skilltree full of decimal point boosts to mundane things/activities like harvesting and meter management is a bit boring, and means that those mundane things/activities are just TOO boring and TOO tedious and TOO small by design
-Game needs, needs, NEEDS FoV (Field of View) options! Especially with how up the character's butt the camera gets with a bow. (Honestly, with the camera THAT tight, it might as well just be FIRST person and NOT have some doofus taking up half the screen on the left)
-Related note- with the camera SO close, the nearby foliage is a major hindrance to seeing anything at all. Maybe it could go transparent?
-Good idea (necessary, perhaps??) putting the light beacons on collectible resources, (thinking deer meat, especially here) things like that would be utterly invisible otherwise
-No arrow reclamation? Seems odd.
-Might be nice if drops from human opponents were in their bag or on their body (rather than spewing various meats and cheeses across the forest floor.... For the player to go pick up one by one... see above)
-Being able to chop down ONLY CERTAIN trees is a bit silly. A certain width or height restriction is understandable, but "ONLY these trees over here, the ones that got painted with a highlighter" is just odd nonsense
-Could use some tooltips/legends in the build interface (like how to rotate, for instance)

Sorry, I realize that that's a fat wall of text..... Aaaand that a fair bit of it is critical of the game. It's really not meant to be a bashing, just some honest feedback.

Looks like a really neat premise combining the RPG bits and the combat bits and the building bits though!! Hope it all comes together, best of luck!

I played for about 5 hours and i quite enjoy the basics of the game.

Biggest flaws i see after playing this:
1. i really missed quick bar and shortcuts (faster switching weapons, healing potions etc.)
2. better combat system....i prefer more control for a sword movement
3. AI of human NPC in combat.

I would love to see dehiding look like in RDR2.

Liked the demo altough combat is mediocre for me. Looking forward to polish localization. Fingers crossed for the devs.

Great game all up really ..just some tweaks
: as mentioned previously chopping trees to clear for buildings should generate wood.. it is lying on the ground to step over after all.
: need FOV while holding bow.(maybe a few choices, left shoulder ,right shoulder above 30degrees or mouse wheeelable?). its too narrow.. i found it best to hold axe, look, spot, change to bow shoot. improved success 400% but not realistic in a Robin Hood Scenario.
: Perhaps as mentioned train villagers to be lookouts/scouts.. and position them or get them seeking resource locations.. rather than locking them to extant visible map points. If enemy kill them off. could validate enemy incursions.. and warrant Robins investigation?.
: seems you can mine a rock down to unmine-able state maybe have it dissapear and respawn after a timer?
: Different deer give identical amounts of meat.. (prolly just to get demo rolling??? i hope)
: Will Villages grow their own food eventually? or will Robin have to keep feeding his followers. not sure i'd enjoy having to hunt for entire village very long at all (game breaker to me)
: Food again: could traps, snares bear pits be employed to both feed and defend?
:Ladders/Trees not climbable?? nearly every Robin hood film has a tree climbing moment :-)
:felled enemies.. im not sure a scattering of goods is rewarding... maybe a body confirms the kill and then searching it to get the goods might work better in many ways... i know ive killed for eg 3 enemy but that i need to search and pick up 18 pieces of stuff to find that i can only carry 12 pieces and then have to "muck" around with inventories and dropping things meh i think you get it..
:Finally (for now) will we ever see Robins Face :-)

Solid foundation.

Friar Tucks' voice. It feels really read off a script, doesn't flow and is jarring. Robin is good from what I heard though.

Is there a FOV slider? If so I missed that.

The tutorials cut in the tick you finish a mission which is really jarring. I can literally finish a mission and before I personally register I have, the tutorial is up.

Bodies turning into their loot sounds like a good solution to introducing corpses, but I couldn't find where I killed a guy earlier so I didn't know where there was loot.

The Quick Wheel is based on screen space, which means that while using it I can move the cursor to the side, and if I drag it up it doesn't move up on the scroll because my corner is far away.

Anyway, Good luck!

cinematic mode, which disables everything for you to admire the world, and a camera mode where it pauses the game and allows you to move the camera around and mess around with some filters and stuff before taking a screenshot.

Active hunting vs passive hunting. The active hunting is broken. There's no chance of sneaking up on the deer. They run around frantically and never stops to feed or drink. On the other hand - the platform in that NPC hideout makes it far too easy as all the deers of Sherwood seems to pass through - but only when you're on the platform in the tree.

Secondly the bow is far too weak against opponents.. And the spawning are quite annoying. Make it a quest to clear the hideout, so the people of Sherwood have a spot to hunt from. AND PLEASE do something about the ladder, so you can climb it.

The Game has a lot of potential..! Graphics are awesome already..! I'm hoping for some more immersive NPCs, that can carry the story. Brother Tuck is a bit flat right now. But other than that I'm really looking forward to the release..!

I think this game needs better water physics. for example swimming and drowning etc.

on the hunting theres a spot below a waterfall, kinda midway between 3 "zones"near a little island and two rivers converge.. just wait in the middle on the island water edge..with long sightlines along river...easy kills.. i found axe slot 1 bow slot 2.. use axe while waiting looking, then 2 when u see deer stop at waters edge "bingo"

Hello Dev Team,
I'm having fun. And I have a idea.
Can you guys make a war system in this game? Players can form and command their own forces to attack the enemy AI Lord, and defend the city player already own.
It must be fun! :D
