How to place fence?

I missed something in the tutorials. You build fence posts for decorations and you're supposed to stick them in front of your castle. How do I place items? I cant even find the fence posts I made in my inventory. Thank you for your time.

Never mind, your supposed to be in the grass area, and when you select Wood Fence, place your mouse in the grass area and the fence ghost shows up.

Hello. Don't forget to save often. There are two buildings (for now) that you can not interact with once you place them down in the lot. You can't even destroy it. I had to revert back to an old save. The Aviary and Clothing building.
