The Bloodline

Lots of positive reviews but no-one played for more than 10 hours
People have said some great things about this game, it seems interesting with all the different things you can do.

But one of the main things i look at is how long people are playing a game before giving up on it, doublely so for sandbox genre games. In this case almost all the reviewers stopped playing before even putting in 10 hours.

Can anyone explain this inconsistency to me please?
If there is so much to do and generally people are enjoying it, then why are they stopping so soon?

From personal experience, game is very unfinished, lots of skills, lots of potential but lots of unfinished buildings, towns, quests.. even the systems (engineering, smithing, town building etc..)
I would wait tbh if i were u but i already bought it so..

Thanks. The 30% discount was enticing but i will wait. Especially because my middle mouse button doesn't work and the game currently doesn't have keybindings and uses middle mouse for important things, so it would be unplayable for me atm.

For me I'm just waiting to play again once performance is looked at. Because if that is 100% fixed then the game is actually solid. It's just hard to enjoy when fps drops from 150 to 9 all the time.

Hmm, I am lucky in that I've never had frame drops. I have put about 28 hours into the game and I'm still finding things to do and places to go. I only just realised that if you zoom into the map until you're almost in third person mode there are a lot more places that show up. It should keep me busy a while yet

Personally I had to stop playing because of a lack of maps. Either supplied by the game company or made by the community(gamefaqs type thing) would work. Maybe in time.

I think it has a lot of potential, but for now, that's all it is...potential. I've had many "game breaking" bugs that leave me frustrated, but I feel that the game is still "playable". I'll probably put it down myself shortly until some things get fixed more.

The maps have a random element so that feature would be useless. For example, I have two characters and I noticed that a particular tower I was looking for were on different sides of the lake. I'd taken a snapshot of where the tower was in one game to use as a guide in the other and was quite surprised the photos showed the differing locations

That's why even if you save a game you don't appear where you saved your game. You appear at the default spot so you don't appear inside a wall or furniture.

I made the mistake of continually overwriting one save game and after 32 hours of play, up to level 14, I encounter a fatal error when trying to load into the Necropolis. My fault for putting all my eggs in one basket. An enjoyable game but too buggy. Best to wait until some of the issues are fixed.

I was going to wait buying it but at $13... it'd almost be silly not to buy it now. The game's price will definitely go up as they add more and the amount of customization currently in the game is fun enough for me. I've only encountered a couple bugs (that were visual) but now that I died... I've only "technically" played for like 30 minutes. Save often.

Yep, hit that U key to autosave. I make two saves per character and back them up manually as well as hitting U frequently.

Ahh, thanks Tachyon. Not sure if this is the type of game that should have random maps. Maybe put in an easy mode that has a predetermined map. I mean I love games like Nethack and Diablo II, which have random maps, but it's not working for me with this game.
Tachyon Oct 12, 2023 @ 9:16am
I have no issues with random maps in any game, personally. Forever Skies, Valheim, etc... it makes the games more interesting and it stops gamers trawling the Internet for easy ways to get on in the game and posting spoilers everywhere.

This is actually one of my cons with the game as it stands now. Now mind you, it's early access. So it's kind of to be expected. However, as someone else remarked already, it was 30% off and the price is likely to rise, so I just bought it and have enjoyed myself thus far.

I haven't encountered any bosses or sub bosses or really any unique creatures to speak of. The game definitely doesn't feel finished yet and the variety is a little lacking, but the bones of an excellent playground are there. It just needs time to be worked on.

I made a thread with some feedback that I posted yesterday and the enemy variety as well as weapon scaling were two things I commented on specifically.

Same thing happened to me except I had it saved across a few save slots. I loaded a 2 hour old save and it happened again after reaching level 14. I was 51 hours into that character and just decided to start another one and hope for the best. I am back to level 13 on the new character. We will see if level 14 is cursed...

I got it the day before yesterday, and I'm hooked. 9 hours already, so I guess I'll be a mythical 10 hour positive review.

This game offers me something I literally can't get anywhere else. Compared to other EA games I've played, it is fairly polished day 1. What isn't polished can be fixed, nothing extremely fundamental is broken.

As a fairly regular EA purchaser, this game has a ton of green flags. But like I always say, buy for the state it is in - don't buy for hopes. Unless you are mad like me lmao.

I love it. It is unique, and I'm quite confident it will only get better. It already has quite a few secrets - it is just that a lot of the game is "discover in game". Compared to a full release - obviously it is lacking. Compared to other new early access games, it is just fine.
